2005 Buick Park Avenue | Review | Buying Guide
Out-doing the top-selling full-size LeSabre for luxury is pretty tough as it already has a solid collection of features, but the upscale flagship 2005 Buick Park Avenue, as the near-luxury class entry for Buick and it goes the extra mile to do just that, providing Buick lovers with a real alternative. Buick calls it the perfect expression of sensible luxury, and the 2004 Park Avenue is that. An expression of American motoring history, long, lean and mean when it needs to be, the Park Avenue has a surprising amount of power under its hood. With steak and sizzle, the Park Avenue has a refined design - and performance to spare.
This is the last year for the Park Avenue and it is going out with a bang. Recognizing the long and illustrious Buick history, this year both models pay homage to the past with classic Buick features such as a vertical-bar grille and front fender portholes. Originally introduced in 1949 as "VentiPorts," these chrome-plated portholes on each front fender give the vehicle a powerful look and allow additional air to flow through the engine compartment. Previously, this stylish detail was reserved for the Ultra.
Under the Hood
The base2005 Park Avenue shares the powertrain profile of the LeSabre; equipped with a 3.8-liter Series II V6 engine with 205 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 230 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Upgrade to the Ultra and that profile is markedly enhanced as the supercharged 3.8-liter Series II V6 engine kicks in. It generates the maximum 240 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. A standard Gran Touring package with specially tuned suspension and rear stabilizer bar keep the Ultra’s ride ultra smooth.
Safety is addressed with standard 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, dual front airbags and front side airbags. The automatic-level suspension adds to occupant comfort on all models.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
To an extent, the retiring of the Park Avenue is the end of an era and Buick is commemorating this with a special touch. The last 3000 Buick Park Avenue’s will be Special Edition models with unique logos, trim and wheels, and a black-and-platinum exterior will be available. Instant collectibles.
On top of the extensive base amenities, the Ultra piles on substantial luxury. Burled Walnut woodgrain trim on the instrument panel, steering wheel, doors and optional convenience console matches well with soft leather upholstery. Ultra also has an electrochromic inside rearview mirror with integral compass which combines with heated outside rearview mirrors, integral turn indicators and a Concert Sound III audio system. Options include a sunroof, a trunk-mounted CD changer, a head-up instrumentation display, Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and rear A/C vents.
