2005 Used Buick Rainier Buying Guide

The 2005 Buick Rainier is a truck-based SUV created to provide Buick enthusiasts with a larger and beefier alternative to the Rendezvous. Sharing the basic design of the GMC Envoy, Chevy Trailblazer and Isuzu Ascender, the Rainier has all the utility of the popular mid-size SUV class yet still displays trademark Buick luxury.

Buick’s generous CXL trim-level comes with a couple of different powertrain options, and either a 2-wheel drive or a more all-weather capable all-wheel drive.

Under the Hood

As with the Buick Rendezvous, 2005 Buick Rainier buyers have a choice between two high-powered engines. The base is a 4.2-liter dohc V6 engine that can generate up to 275 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 275 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. Alternatively, you can have a V8, and I don’t mean a drink made of vegetables. This Rainier comes equipped with a 5.3-liter ohv V8 with 290 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Both these engines are combined with a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and torque converter clutch. They get between 14 and 18 mpg (city/hwy), which isn’t bad for the vehicle class and engine size.

As mentioned, customers can opt for either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction control and standard dual-front airbags add to safety while a limited slip differential, rear load-leveling suspension and fat, low-profile 245/65R17 tires all add to the performance equation.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2005 Buick Rainier comes with many standards as part of Buick’s CXL trim level package. However, a wide selection of stand alone options enhances the possibilities for the consumer.

The CXL trim includes leather upholstery with 8-way power front bucket seats with driver-side lumbar adjustment and memory system (driver seat and mirrors), air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, the OnStar emergency assistance system, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel w/radio and climate controls, heated power mirrors w/turn signals, power windows, door locks and remote keyless entry, an AM/FM/CD and cassette player, rear radio controls, trip computer, etc. etc.. The list goes on and on.

Optional extras are equally impressive from Buick, with optional rear-seat DVD, Bose sound, GPS navigation system, curtain-side airbags and so on. Basically, whether your orientation is toward performance, style or safety, the Buick has it available for the Rainier.
