2005 Used Cadillac CTS Buying Guide
Cadillac is remaking itself in the new millennia as it competes segment-by-segment with the many credible competitors out there. The 2005 Cadillac CTS is part of that battle, competing toe-to-toe with upstart imports like the 3-Series from BMW and the Acura TL. A rear-wheel drive premium mid-size car, this Caddy has a tough segment to compete in but Cadillac has a history of success and a name that many envy. It’s an American icon, pure and simple.
However, Cadillac knows not to rest on its laurels. In addition to being one of the largest and most luxurious in its class, it will have a new base engine, a 2.8-liter V6, that will allow a broader spectrum of consumers to be able to buy this car. Of course, it will also have the other end of the spectrum covered, through employment of the huge and high-powered 5.7-liter V8 that comes with the CTS-V.
Under the Hood
The CTS Base model comes with a 3.6-liter V6 with 255 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 252 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. This base engine is to be replaced by a new V6, a 2.8-liter, that gets better mileage and still manages a respectable 215 hp.
However, the true story for the CTS comes with the hi-performance model, the CTS-V. 400 horsepower. This puts it in a class with some of the highest performance vehicles around. 5.7-liter V8 – fully 395 lb-ft of torque. This is a muscle-car with the leading innovations in control and safety technology. On the control side, upgraded antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, antiskid, performance suspension and big fat, low-profile 245/45WR18 run-flat tires with a tire-pressure monitor.
On the safety side, dual front, curtain side and front-side airbags combine with wiper-activated xenon headlights with their own washers and daytime running lights, to ensure both visibility for prevention and then protection, in case of disaster.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The four-door CTS seats five passengers. Its sharp forms and angular cues were chosen to represent and mirror the advent of the high-tech world of geometric shapes and crisp lines. A car for the times, in other words.
On the inside, the emphasis is on comfort and convenience. Warm, rich materials help to contrast a cool, computer-like cockpit appearance. Wood is used in those areas where the driver comes into contact with functional equipment, such as on the steering wheel, shifter knob and door pulls.
Options are available, but the standard list is quite thorough in itself. A tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio and climate controls, leather upholstery, an 8-way power driver seat, heated power mirrors, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player and an analog clock are just part of the list. The CTS-V comes with standard navigation heated front seats, memory system (driver’s seat, mirrors) and high-end Bose Audio.
