2005 Used Cadillac DeVille Buying Guide
The 2005 Cadillac DeVille returns for the new year with upgraded interior hardware and a few new exterior colours; Green Silk, Light Cashmere and Glacier Gold (available after start of production. These changes complement the high-powered and intensely luxurious Deville with VIP protection services that exceed all others for factory-produced vehicles. Recognizing the fact that Devilles carry many VIPS, like ambassadors, business and political leaders, and other potential targets, Cadillac has responded to the post-9/11 reality with these changes.
In August, 2004, a new Protection Series was introduced, Cadillac partnered with Scaletta Maloney Armoring to produce a special armored model designed to be inconspicuous while incorporating advanced features such as ballistic steel and glass, a special run-flat wheel and tire system and a self-sealing fuel tank.
Regular DeVille models continue to offer power, style and refinement. Last year’s additions of heated and cooled front seats (standard on the DHS and DTS and optional on the base model) have been retained along with all the other luxury appointments. The system uses two fan modules in each seat for three levels each of cooling, full-seat heating and back-only heating, making the DeVille the first vehicle with cooled seats that have the ability to heat only the seatbacks.
Under the Hood
Two acclaimed Northstar engines drive the DeVille line, giving the sleek sedan impressive power. Base and DHS models have a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine with specs of 275 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The top-line DTS uses a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 with 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
4-speed electronic automatic transmission is mated to both of these engines. It delivers consistent, slip-free shifting to get the 2005 DeVille up to speed with ease.
Night Vision is the first automotive application of thermal-imaging technology. It can assist drivers in seeing objects beyond headlight range during nighttime. To compliment this, the DeVille also offers Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, a technology that assists the driver in rear parking maneuvers.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The four-door, five-passenger DeVille is long and elegant. It has a wheelbase of 115.3 inches and 19.1 cubic feet of cargo volume. In other words, the DeVille is spacious and can accommodate a healthy amount of cargo. An 8-inch stretch model is also available for limousine-class roominess.
As a luxury car, the DeVille is refined and filled with standard features. All models have air conditioning with tri-zone automatic climate controls (including rear controls), a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel with climate and radio controls, leather upholstery, an AM/FM/CD/cassette player and more. Naturally, DHS and DTS models add on even more.
Upgraded hardware, new for 2005, includes sixth generation OnStar with improved hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy and OnStar Personal Calling which enables drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls using a powerful three-watt digital/analog system and external antenna for greater reception.
Cadillac Virtual Advisor by OnStar is also available. It provides weather forecasts, traffic reports of up to within a 15 mile-range of the vehicle’s location, monitors traffic for personalized routes and even reports stock market information (up to 10 selected stocks on the DJI and NASDAQ markets). Factory-installed Satellite Radio is back with 3 months of free subscription with 100 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original music, news, sports and talk.
