2005 Used Cadillac SRX Buying Guide

GM has changed the recipe on the Cadillac family with the retirement of the Seville and the introduction of new models STS and SRX late last year. Back for its first full year, the 2005 SRX has an iconic tradition and name to uphold despite its unconventional Cadillac design. The fact is, the style, luxury and performance that Cadillac is known for is represented in full measure in the SRX. The new configuration just means that consumers looking for different capabilities in their vehicle can get them with added bonus of the Cadillac name and production values.

The SRX is a medium-luxury, car-based mid-sized SUV, almost a sports touring vehicle, that combines a luxury performance sedan with SUV toughness and versatility. Its design is based on the CTS, from which it gains its Sigma architecture. However, the SRX carries up to seven passengers with an available power-folding third-row seat

Under the Hood

There are two engines offered with the new SRX. The first is a 3.6-liter variable-valve timing V6 with 255 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. It uses a number of innovative features such as electronic throttle control, multi-port fuel injection, two-stage roller chain cam drive, aluminum block and cylinder heads and a forged steel crankshaft. For 2005 the trailering package available on the V-6 and Optional trailer capacity increases to 4,250 pounds (1,928 kg).

The second engine is a 4.6-liter Northstar variable-valve timing V8 with 320 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 315 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. These engines are mated to two 5-speed automatic transmissions featuring Driver Shift Control (for clutchless manual shifting), electronically controlled engine braking, downgrade detection with brake assist and Performance Algorithm Liftfoot.

Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations are offered. The SRX also has StabiliTrak active suspension control and available segment-first Magnetic Ride Control. Now available with the rear-wheel-drive model, the electronically controlled magnetic-fluid based real-time damping is the world's fastest-reacting automatic suspension control system. That’s right: automatic.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The SRX is a Cadillac, so it is filled with luxury features like air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, the OnStar telematics system, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio and climate controls and leather upholstery.

Changes for 2005 include an instrument cluster with chrome accents. Darker privacy glass and Sand Storm exterior paint replacing Cashmere are other refinements. A handy interior design makes use of all the SRX’s space. The second row seat has the most legroom in its class at 41 inches. The third row seat power-folds into the floor at the push of a button.

Cadillac Virtual Advisor by OnStar is also available. It provides weather forecasts, traffic reports of up to within a 15 mile-range of the vehicle’s location, monitors traffic for personalized routes and even reports stock market information (up to 10 selected stocks on the DJI and NASDAQ markets). Factory-installed Satellite Radio is optional with 100 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original music, news, sports and talk.

Options and options packages for 2005 allow the addition of luxuries like a rear-seat DVD player, a power sunroof and much more.
