2005 Used Chevrolet Monte Carlo Supercharged SS Buying Guide
The Supercharged SS debuted last year, adding an undeniable measure of power, flare and performance to the Monte Carlo. It was, however, quite overdue in the eyes of many observers. After all, the Monte Carlo is essentially a street-legal version of a NASCAR racer.
There is a definite feel of a racecar that you are privileged to experience with the Supercharged SS. From a performance perspective, the power, tight handling and increased shock-absorption are self-evident. But on top of that, there is a marked sense of confidence that translates up through the steering wheel and into the driver. You just feel good driving this car around.
And with its aerodynamic styling, others will surely notice you as you do. Supercharged power surely doesn’t hurt in that respect either.
Under the Hood
The engine under the hood of the new Supercharged SS is a 3.8-liter supercharged Series II V6. It cranks out 240 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It also features a compact, 90-cubic-inch supercharger that helps deliver power in a smooth, linear fashion by adding boost at predetermined points along the power curve
Chassis and suspension enhancements give the Supercharged SS an extremely smooth and functional ride. It has four-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts at all four corners, power rack-and-pinion steering, electronic traction control and large-diameter four-wheel disc power-assisted braking with ABS.
The transfer of power occurs through a Heavy-Duty Hydra-Matic four-speed electronically controlled transmission. It wastes now time switching gears, allowing you to get up to speed in a hurry.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Supercharged SS is certainly built to catch the eye. Standard are a race-inspired spoiler and dual bright stainless-steel exhaust tips. Also included are f ull-perimeter ground effects styling, 17-inch W-speed-rated Goodyear Eagle RS-A Performance tires and 17-inch Diamond-Cut cast-aluminum wheels.
