2005 Used Chevrolet TrailBlazer Buying Guide
The TrailBlazer has been a wonderfully popular midsize sport utility vehicle for Chevrolet. In fact, its architecture is so heralded that GM spreads it across its massive empire. TrailBlazer is the top-selling version of a GM design shared with the Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy and Isuzu Ascender.
2005 brings in a host of improvements to the TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer EXT (covered in a separate review). A revised V8 engine offering better fuel economy, trim changes for a more upscale look and available head-protecting curtain side airbags are among those that top the list.
The newly available curtain side airbags are just part of a larger upgrade to occupant safety. The airbags feature a rollover protection system, and are joined by an occupant sensing airbag system for the front passenger, a revised front safety belt reminder system and the LATCH child seat anchorage system.
Under the Hood
The standard engine this year with 2005 TrailBlazers is a 4.2-liter inline 6-cylinder model that can generate 275 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 275 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. It is mated to a rugged Hydra-Matic 4L60-E electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission.
As always, you can purchase a 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer with either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. An Autotrac four-wheel-drive system is standard on 4WD models, while traction control is available as an option for 2WD models.
A five-link rear suspension and independent double-A-arms up front work with a system of 12 specially tuned body mounts using hydraulics and rubber pads to dramatically reduce vibration and harshness on any kind of road or trail. 4-wheel ventilated antilock disc brakes are standard with the 2005 TrailBlazer.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The TrailBlazer’s interior gets a nice re-working this year as well. Appearance changes for 2005 include a new seat design for improved comfort and craftsmanship, floormat and console trim designs for LT models and additional chrome interior accents throughout on both LS and LT versions.
In addition, an MP3 player is now offered as part of an optional stereo package for LS models. The optional navigation radio system has also been upgraded with improved touch-screen functions.
There are additional options offered for 2005 as well. They can be added in groups or individually. Included are leather upholstery, a rear-seat DVD system, a power sunroof, satellite radio and rain-sensing wipers.
