2005 Chrysler Sebring Convertible | Review | Buying Guide
The 2005 Sebring Convertible is an interesting offering for the North American midsize car class. There is rarely such focus on the convertible but Chrysler has carved out a significant share of the convertible market with this high-value offering and the way they have done it is through a comprehensive collection of choices. This isn’t simply a regular sedan with the hard-top removed and a soft-top put on.
The 2005 Chrysler Sebring Convertible has three trim levels on top of the Base model, two engine choices and a range of performance and luxury combinations, from a bare bones that starts with good standards to a Limited model that has all the luxury the Sebring can offer. Chrysler has left the slumps behind and brand sales continue to improve due to well-rounded vehicles like the Sebring Convertible.
Under the Hood
The entry-level base convertibles come with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine offering 150 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 167 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. From the GTC, a trim-level unique to the Sebring convertible, and up, the power is increased with a standard 2.7-liter V6 that delivers 200 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 190 lb-ft of torque at 4850 rpm.
The four-cylinder engine in the Base model is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission but a 5-speed autostick with manual-shift capability is available with the more tantalizing V6 engine in GTC, Touring and Limited models. Along with this engine, by the time you get to the top-level Limited, you get standard 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction control, touring suspension, chrome alloy wheels and fog lights.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
With four model trims to choose from, there is a plenty of variety with the two-door, four-passenger 2005 Sebring convertible: leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, a trip computer, 6-way power driver seat, high end Infinity audio and many more choices are available, in some cases as standard and in some cases as available extras.
The Luxury Package available to the Convertible adds automatic climate control and Infinity sound with a 6-CD changer. Some stand-alone options are also available.
