2005 Chrysler Sebring | Review | Buying Guide
The 2005 Chrysler Sebring Sedan is a key mid-size offering that continues to provide an excellent balance of luxury and value. The result to date has been high sales and great success. Capitalizing on this success and not wanting to lose their initiative, the Chrysler designers have pulled out the stops for another year. Like the 2004 , the 2005 Sebring sedan may not be the flashiest mid-size model out there, but it holds its own with any car in terms of luxury and value, whether you choose Base, Touring or Limited trim levels.
Offered with a range of options packages, engine types and trim levels, the Sebring Sedan is all about choices. Unchanged are the long smooth lines punctuated by bold, round wheel arches and large, wraparound lights. Beneath that skin lies a rigid, roomy structure that rates five stars in government collision and rollover tests. Safety can be further enhanced by the optional curtain side airbags. The Sebring's stiffness also provides an ideal platform for its supple, all-independent suspension.
Under the Hood
Two engines are spread across the front-wheel drive 2005 Sebring Sedan’s two-model lineup. With the entry-level Base model, the powertrain starts with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder model that offers 150 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 155 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Touring and Limited models benefit from an engine upgrade to the 2.7-liter V6. This powerhouse pumps out 200 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 190 lb-ft of torque at 4850 rpm.
The 4-speed automatic transmission that controls these two engine choices offer 21/28mpg (city/hwy) through the front-wheel drive system.
The Touring and Limited models also a couple of other enhancements to the performance profile as both are equipped with a ground-hugging touring suspension and fatter, lower-profile 205/60R16 tires. Antilock disc brakes, including traction control can be added as an optional extra.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2005 Sebring sedan is a four-door with room for five adults and, with over 38 inches of minimum rear leg room, on a wheelbase of 108 inches, the Sebring has a surprising amount of roominess.
Standard equipment on the 2005 Base Sebring sedans include air conditioning, power steering, cloth upholstery on front bucket seats with driver-seat lumbar adjustment, center console, split folding rear seat and power mirrors, windows and door locks .
The move to the Touring model offers cruise control remote keyless entry and a CD audio system. The top-line Limited model adds leather upholstery on an 8-way power driver seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls and a premium sound system.
