2005 Chrysler Town & Country | Review | Buying Guide
Responding to customers demands for high safety standards, greater cargo capacity and less of a need for all-wheel-drive among the family-centered minivan segment, the 2005 Chrysler Town and Country has made a few changes, with a front-wheel-drive only minivan that transfers easily between passengers and cargo with fold-flat seats.
For those requiring a bit more luxury than the Dodge Caravan, the Town and Country is perfect with none-the-less affordable choices in the Base and longer LX. The up-level Touring and Limited models, reviewed separately, have even more standards.
Under the Hood
Base and LX models come with a 3.3-liter V6 engine with 180 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission that manages 19/26 mpg, (city/hwy). LX models come with antilock brakes.
Safety is more of a priority this year and all models come with standard dual front and driver side knee airbag. For added safety, owners can opt for curtain-side airbags. On the performance side, a towing package can be added with significant capability including increased engine cooling capacity, a heavy-duty alternator and battery combo, trailer-wiring harness, and load-leveling height-control suspension.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
All 2005 Town & Country models seat seven. While the base regular length model has a total cargo volume of 142.3 cubic feet, extended length versions offer 167.9 cubic feet of space. Either way, there is generally plenty of room for both people and goods.
Even on the lower-end Base and LX models, the Town and Country has good standards. The Base has front air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery on front bucket seats and 2nd/3rd row bench seats, power everything, remote keyless entry, CD Audio, variable-intermittent wipers and so on. An upgrade to LX adds heated power mirrors and stowable seats.
Options include a rear-seat video entertainment system, a navigation system, power-adjustable pedals and more.
