2005 Dodge Durango | Review | Buying Guide
The addition of an outdoor-enthusiast package for the well-rounded Dodge Durango shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise. After all, the Durango has been a favorite of adventurers needing a vehicle to get them back into the rougher areas of the planet. Now, Dodge has simply gone ahead and acknowledged them with a model all their own.
The 2005 Durango also gets a reshuffling of options, resulting in more comfort features for individual models. There are three of them to choose from: Durango comes as an ST model with two rows of seats for five-passenger capacity, and as SLT and Limited models that seat seven on three rows.
In addition to that, there are also three rugged engines to choose from, the tops of which is an absolute HEMI monster that will surely fill in your power needs. If not, you’d be better served buying a big rig.
Under the Hood
Dodge offers a standard 3.7-liter V6 engine with the base ST model. It can produce up to 210 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission is the sole setup for this motor.
The rest of the model lineup uses a 4.7-liter Magnum V8. With 230 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm, it is quite strong. 5-speed automatic is the transmission of choice.
Then there’s the 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum V-8. It has a near overdose of brawn, churning out 335 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 370 lb-ft of torque at 5200 rpm.
There are also a number of driving configurations to choose from. Dodge offers the 2005 Durango with rear-wheel drive and with two all-wheel-drive systems, one with low-range gearing.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Innovation and industry-leading appointments mark the customer-friendly 2005 Durango. For 2005, Dodge Durango offers heated cloth seats—an industry first for SUVs—on all Durango models, plus an available full-screen navigation system. There’s also word of a new SXT package to be available this year as well.
The new Adventurer package brings quite a lot to the table. It includes a roof with a choice of six-rack systems or an Adventurer Accessory kit, Satin Silver tubular side steps, reversible slush mats, a rubberized, washable cargo liner with a built-in rear cargo organizer and unique machine-finished aluminum wheels.
