The 2005 lineup for the Dodge Neon drops one model, but it is still quite diverse. With the SE, SXT and SRT-4 models, you can go from supremely value-conscious all the way up to blistering high performance. In the end, the choice is probably as much dependent on your pocketbook as it is your need for speed.

However, if you do have the means and the thirst for spine-tingling driving, the SRT-4 is the perfect model. It is designed with a special engine, performance-tuned handling and suspension features and it is fast. In fact, the SRT-4 is the second faster Dodge car, with a 0-60 mph time of just 5.8 seconds.

At the other end of the spectrum is the responsible SE model. It is a very good value for what it offers, which is a dependable, no-nonsense ride that gets you where you need to go time and time again.

Under the Hood

Under the hood of entry-level Neon SEs and midlevel SXTs is a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It provides a modest 132 horsepower and an additional 130 lb-ft of torque. 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission are both available.

Then there’s the SRT-4. Dodge engineers refined the engine calibration of the 2.4-liter intercooled turbo model, boosting the output to 230 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.

The 2005 SRT-4 also features a torque-sensing limited-slip differential as standard equipment, and it has specially tuned sport suspension and brakes.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The Neon comes with four full doors, and offers 13.1 cubic feet of cargo volume. Safety is one of the cornerstones of the Neon design, with all models having the LATCH child seat anchorage system, child-protection door locks and an emergency internal trunk lid release. Seat-mounted, supplemental side airbags are also available.

The 2005 Dodge Neon SXT has a new SRT Design package. It has no shame expressing itself with such features as a power bulge hood that amplifies the vehicle's muscular body, new fog lamps and a dual exhaust and spoiler that highlight the rear fascia.

A Kicker audio package is now offered as an option on Dodge Neon SXT. Kicker is a premium brand that takes the Neon SXT's audio system to the next level. With its 208-watt input, sub woofer, dedicated amplifier assembly and eight speakers, the stereo upgrade is fine-tuned and balanced specifically for the Neon.
