Some new models make a significant splash when they are debuted; the Ram SRT-10 caused a tidal wave. The fastest pickup truck you’re ever going to see, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 is a 1500 model with the Viper’s awe-inspiring V-10 engine rumbling under its hood.
The Ram SRT-10 brings even more good news to gearheads in 2005. Last year it was offered in a two-door configuration; this year, it can be had as a four-door Quad Cab as well.
Well, there’s no use hiding what most people want to hear, and that is some physical evidence to support the Ram SRT-10’s claims to greatness. Well, here it is: the Dodge Ram SRT-10 earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records on Feb. 2, 2004 as the world’s fastest production pickup truck, with a measured top speed of 154.587 mph sustained over a flying kilometer.
Under the Hood
Oh yeah, the SRT-10 also reaches 60 mph in just over five seconds. Not too shabby, you might say.
The turgid, beating heart under the Ram SRT-10’s hood is an 8.3-liter/ 505-cubic-inch V10 with 500 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 525 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm. 6-speed manual transmission lets you feel the power at your fingertips, if you’re using the two-door version that is.
That’s because the new Quad Cab uses a special 4-speed automatic transmission. But not just any type—a super-duty 4-speed specially tweaked to provide optimum performance with the capability of towing 7,500 pounds. The Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab has several other unique features supporting its towing capability, including a special transmission cooler, heavy-duty torque converter, special front and rear strut and spring assemblies and all-season tires.
Of course, there’s more. The Ram SRT-10 has a custom-tuned, independent suspension, Bilstein mono-tube shock absorbers, performance-tuned springs and unique aerodynamic design aids that keep it planted at high speeds.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The SRT-10’s wheels are huge: it uses 22-inch custom “Viper-style” models fitted with 305/40 R22 Pirelli Scorpion tires. Compared to regular Rams, the SRT-10 is dropped an inch in the front and 2.5 inches in the rear.
On the inside, the SRT-10 has dual-zone manual climate controls, leather/suede upholstery, power-adjustable pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an Infinity AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and more.
