2005 Ford Crown Victoria | Review | Buying Guide
The 2005 Crown Victoria is back again. Designed for those who are seeking the kind of car they grew up in, Ford continues the tradition with this very large, sleek, powerful and comfortable car. Offering a smooth ride comparable to many luxury sedans that cost far more, the rear-wheel drive, V8 Crown Vic offers size, safety, security and dependability in a recipe that continues to sell successfully throughout North America.
The Crown Victoria’s design is calm and reassuring. It puts one at ease, while at the same time offering a definite functionality. In six-passenger Standard and LX trims, the 2004 Crown Victoria offers 111.2 cubic feet of passenger volume. The trunk is the largest in its class, with 20.6 cubic feet of space. In addition, Crown Victoria’s low liftover height makes loading and unloading easy.
Under the Hood
The 2005 Ford Crown Victoria’s V8 power comes from a 4.6-liter V8 with 224 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. Top-line LX Sport models offer more strength with a 4.6-liter V8 that increases the horsepower to 239 and the lb-ft of torque to 287. Crown Victoria uses an electronically controlled four-speed automatic overdrive transmission. A revised torque converter improves off-the-line acceleration this year.
A Handling and Performance Package is an option on LX models, and it comes standard with the LX Sport. It includes revised springs and monotube shocks, rear heavy-duty stabilizer bar, rear load-leveling air suspension, dual exhaust, performance torque converter and a 3.27:1 axle ratio.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
New for 2005, the Crown Victoria is available in a new colour, Light Tundra Clearcoat Metallic, while a power moonroof option is available for the LX and LX Sport models. The options list now includes an in-dash 6CD changer.
The style of the Crown Vic has always been subtle but undeniable. The roomy cabin space is filled with standard features to make the ride as smooth as the full-size sedan looks. Leather upholstery is standard on top-level LX Sport while optional features include interesting stand alone and packaged add-ons. For example, optional laminated side glass adds security against “smash and grab” break-ins, breakage and flying glass from collisions and even reduces UV rays to reduce heat build-up and fading interior materials.
Plenty of other options are available with the 2005 Ford Crown Victoria. Side airbags in the front seats, all-speed traction control with electronic brake force distribution, a six-disc CD changer, heated rearview mirrors, electronic instrumentation, power adjustable pedals and a trunk organizer can all be purchased for an extra fee.
