2005 Ford Excursion | Review | Buying Guide
The 2005 Ford Excursion Eddie Bauer and Limited trims are the top-level Ford SUVs on the road for 2005. These are flagship vehicles, set-up with sedan luxury and incredibly powerful and rugged capability and are the Kings of the Road for Ford.
It is not surprising then, that these SUVs showcase all the performance and luxury amenity that Ford has on offer. These 2005 Ford Excursions definitely holds their own in this competitive segment, with a great performance profile and luxuries that include two-tone leather upholstery, rear- DVD entertainment, rear-obstacle detection and a host of other features covering safety, performance, style and comfort.
Under the Hood
As in past years, Ford’s diversified lineup means that they have a great technological range to offer their customers and the result with regard to powertrain for the Excursions is a choice between three engines, two gas powered and one diesel, a high-powered, high-torque option unique to Ford in this segment. The standard powertrain consists of a 5.4-liter Triton V8 that delivers 255 horsepower at 4500 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm. 4-speed automatic is the transmission.
Stepping up to the 6.8-liter V10 engine option brings 310 horsepower at 4250 rpm and 425 lb-ft of torque at 3250 rpm. Alternatively, for maximum power and torque in the segment, go diesel! The 6.0-liter turbodiesel V8 engine uses a 5-speed automatic transmission and cranks out an eye-popping 325 horsepower at 3300 rpm and 550 lb-ft of torque at 2000 rpm.
When properly equipped, the Excursion has a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds, which is far from shabby. Not surprisingly, the Excursion is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard, and power-adjustable pedals are available on all models.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The comfort and convenience features raise the bar from XLT to Eddie Bauer and top-level Limited trims. Standards include two-tone leather-trimmed seating surfaces with six-way power driver and passenger captain's chairs, cherry wood grain interior accents, and automatic climate control with auxiliary rear controls. Convenience extras add dual power-heated signal mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, fog lamps, body- color door handles, power adjustable pedals and overhead console with message center.
The exterior is set apart by Arizona Beige front and rear bumpers, a body- color grille, illuminated running boards and unique 16-inch aluminum wheels. The Limited takes this a step further with their own unique (forged) 16-inch aluminum wheels, and other comfort refinements for the driver like the Homelink system (an emergency roadside service similar to OnStar) and steering wheel climate and audio controls. The in-dash six-CD stereo and the optional rear-seat DVD entertainment system make for additional distinction.
