This year Ford has thrown down the gauntlet in a segment they have dominated for years with power, power and more power.

The new Triton V-10 leads the news for the 2005 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty line-ups. This large and powerful gas-powered engine has class-leading horsepower and torque and an unsurpassed towing capacity.

Super Duty models offer lots of vehicle configurations with the ¾-ton F-250s and full 1-ton F-350s, including Regular Cab, 4-door SuperCab and Super CrewCab models. T here are three main trims available: XL, XLT and Lariat.

These models come with a choice of three different engines, a solid frame and numerous safety features. For extra payload capacity, F-350 models are available with a dual-rear-wheel configuration.

Under the Hood

The standard engine for the lot is Ford’s modular 3-Valve 5.4-liter Triton V8. It can be mated to either 6-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. At full throttle, the V8 puts out 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque with 80% of the power available at low rpms for great towing capability.

For more power choose diesel for class-leading torque or gas-driven for the class dominance in horsepower. The segment’s most powerful gasoline engine, Ford’s new 6.8-liter, 3-valve Triton V-10 produces 355 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque.

For diesel engine power choose the Power Stroke, which benefits this year from more pound-feet of torque. The 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel is now rated at 570 pound-feet of torque and 325 horsepower.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The Super Duty line-up has many optional extras that are all about performance capabilities, add-ons like the High-Capacity Trailer Towing packages or the industry-first TowCommand package which includes an electronic trailer brake controller. For 2005 the 6 0/40 Crew Cab rear bench seat returns with a fold-flat load floor, grocery hooks, integrated cup holders and head restraints on XLT and Lariat trims.

The 2005 also sees a return of the special Harley Davidson model which comes complete with flame paint option with red and black or blue on blue. It also has 18-inch aluminum wheels, engine decal, chrome exhaust tip, chrome tubular step bar with Harley-Davidson Bar & Shield insert and other styling cues.
