2005 Ford Freestyle | Review | Buying Guide
The 2005 Ford Freestyle is all-new vehicle offering from Ford for 2005. Purpose-built from the ground up, the Ford Freestyle, is an SUV crossover that effectively blends the capability of an SUV with the performance of a sedan and the capacity of a minivan.
The Freestyle has three rows of seats, cargo capacity that is designed for maximum versatility, with stowable 2 nd and 3 rd row seats, a fold-flat passenger seat and class-leading leg and knee clearance. This is all wrapped in a luxurious collection of standard amenities, powered by an innovative, state-of-the-art V6 powertrain and cocooned in a safety envelope that borrows from partner Volvo’s industry-leading best practices example. The result is a family vehicle for active households that is ruggedly capable in many road conditions, has great mileage for the class and easily passes the stringent emissions standards that are being developed.
Three trim levels include the SE, SEL and top-level Limited models.
Under the Hood
The Ford Freestyle is powered by a Duratec 30, a 3.0-liter V6 mated to a CVT (continuously Variable Transmission) automatic transmission that smoothly produces 203 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 207 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm and manages an impressive (for the class) 19/24 mpg (city/hwy) with all-wheel drive.
The Freestyle is offered with available 4-wheel-drive and standard traction control. Antilock brakes are standard along with an impressive amount of safety innovation borrowed from Volvo, Ford’s industry partner.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Freestyle has a fold-flat passenger seat and stowable 2 nd and 3 rd row seating. The SE trim, the basic level, is equipped with substantial standard amenities including air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, door locks, mirrors, remote keyless entry and keypad entry. It comes with a 6-way power driver’s seat, a CD audio player, and more.
The SEL adds an in-dash 6CD/MP3 player, heated power mirrors and a leather-wrapped steering wheel while a move to the up-level Limited adds leather upholstery, heated seats, memory settings and so on.
Optional extras include packages and stand-alone items like rear-obstacle detection, power sunroof, and a safety package that includes front and curtain side airbags with a rollover sensor. These complement the Freestyle’s advanced Ford safety profile that includes crash impact, passenger weight and passenger seat position sensors that will adjust or eliminate deployment of the airbag in a collision to match the specific crash circumstances for maximum occupant safety.
