2005 Ford Mustang | Review | Buying Guide
2005 is the year of the Mustang. The all-new 2005 Ford Mustang is going to rock out of the starting gate with either of its two new, more powerful engines and styling that echoes the grandeur of the past. This is a hot looking car and it isn’t all show. Under the hood it is positively scorching!
Other changes include a state-of-the-art chassis, advanced MacPherson struts and a three-link live axle with Panhard rod for dynamic handling, and extended wheelbase (6-inches longer) for better stance, balance and overall interior room with improved head room, leg room and hip room. Also, in a gimmick unique to the Mustang, an industry-first color-configurable instrument cluster option is available. Drivers can personalize the dashboard backlight color in one of 125 colors.
Under the Hood
The 2005 Mustang has V6 or GT in either Deluxe or Premium models for 4 trim levels in all. The V6 in question is new 4-liter SOHC V6 engine with 210-horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. Alternatively, pick a GT. These come with a tire-smoking 4.6-liter all-aluminum V-8 with three-valve heads, 300 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. Both engine choices come with either automatic or manual transmission models.
Other performance highlights include traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, a rear spoiler, fog lights and fat low-profile 235/55ZR17 tires on bright alloy wheels.
However, this isn’t the whole story, as the 2005 has seen a whole host of changes that include suspension and brake improvements to handle the new power profile. For example, twin-piston aluminum calipers clamp down on 12.4-inch ventilated front brake discs on GT models, while V-6 Mustangs get 11.4-inch ventilated rotors that also are 30 mm thick – an increase of more than 15 percent in rotor size.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2005 Mustang still comes as a fastback coupe or a convertible with power top and glass rear window, with seating for four people. Most of the trim level changes are related to engine and performance upgrades but there are some notable distinctions related to interior comfort and luxury.
Base models come with all the basics and a bit more: air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, power mirrors, windows and door locks, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/CD player are examples. The V6 Premium adds upgraded audio and power-adjustable front seating, while at the top, on the GT Premium, you will find standard leather upholstery and further upgraded sound.
Most of the GT Premium’s standards can be added to the other models as options.
