2005 GMC Envoy Denali | Review | Buying Guide
The Denali line of GMC vehicles is synonymous with exceptional quality and refinement. This is easily seen with the Denali versions of the Sierra and Yukon, and now, for the first time, the Denali joins the Envoy line.
Like the regular Envoy, the Envoy Denali is offered in five-passenger and extended-length seven-passenger XL configurations. But where the standard Envoy ends, the Denali begins. On top of the power and performance of those sturdy SUVs, the Denalis add a wealth of luxurious amenities.
To ride in a GMC Envoy Denali is to experience the best of both the performance and comfortable worlds of driving. As GM puts it, these new models continue the trend of continuous refinement for the Envoy lineup that began with the vehicle’s introduction in model year 2002.
Under the Hood
In addition to offering tailoring fit for a king, GMC engineers took the optional engine for other Envoy models and made it standard with the Denali twins. That life-force is a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine that can dish out 290 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is mated to the same 4-speed automatic transmission.
The Denali is equipped with a number of noise deadening components. A f ront-of-dash sound absorber is constructed of a two-layer, non-woven fiberglass material that closes openings in the front-of-dash panel. This virtually eliminates the passage of noise or air from the engine compartment. Noise is reduced up to two decibels with this sound absorber.
Another feature in this regard is an exhaust resonator. It achieves quieter performance with an acoustic chamber tuned to the Vortec engine’s specific resonant frequency. The result is a cancellation of much of the exhaust noise.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Denalis feature an all-new, body-color single-piece front fascia. It has a large, horizontal air intake flanked by round foglamps. The foglamps are set deeper in the fascia and accented with 2.5 inch-deep bright bezels.
In addition, Denalis have thinner, body-color side moldings and body-color outside mirrors that are heated and integrated with turn signal indicators. They ride on polished forged aluminum 17-inch wheels.
On the inside, lush leather seating is heated up front and chrome accents are sprinkled throughout. Other interior appointments include brushed aluminum Denali-logo sill plates, a map pocket on the back of the driver’s seat and two interior color choices: all-ebony or tone-on-tone light gray.
