2005 Used GMC Envoy XUV Buying Guide
Introduced last year, the Envoy XUV is one of the most innovative sport utility vehicles on the road. It combines a number of segment firsts to create a supremely functional wagon.
At the heart of the Envoy XUV is its power sliding glass roof. A push of a button converts the cargo area from fully enclosed to open air. Another push of a button raises and lowers the midgate glass. When the window is raised, the passenger compartment is sealed off from the rear cargo area. With the glass lowered, the midgate flipped down and the seats folded, an extended cargo area is at your disposal.
But that’s not all. The cargo area uses a drain system that can channel as much as 30 gallons of water per minute out of the cargo area. Cargo area versatility is further enhanced by four standard tie-down rings that can be moved to any of 12 locations.
Under the Hood
Like the regular Envoy, the Envoy XUV uses a standard 4.2-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed electronic automatic transmission with overdrive. It can generate up to 275 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 275 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm.
Optional is a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine that produces 290 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm and is mated to the same 4-speed automatic transmission. New for the V8 is GM's Displacement on Demand system. It is designed to automatically shut down four cylinders in gentle driving to save fuel; the cylinders reactivate when more power is needed.
Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations are both offered. Rear-wheel models offer available traction control, while 4WD models have GM's Autotrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
2005 Envoy XUVs come in two trims—SLE and SLT. At the top-end, SLT models are nicely fitted. The following is just part of the list: leather upholstery, heated front seats, 8-way power front seats, driver-seat and mirror memory, dual-zone automatic climate controls, steering-wheel radio and climate controls, rear radio controls, rear headphone jacks, mirror-mounted turn-signal lights, a trip computer and an outside-temperature indicator.
Options that can be had as stand-alone items include the following: a power sunroof, a DVD entertainment system, OnStar, a Bose sound system and an in-dash 6-disc CD changer.
