2005 Honda Accord EX | Review | Buying Guide
Top-line Honda Accords are models that invariably handle all the performance issues of an automobile with ease. After all, they are still Hondas, meaning they will last forever, keep you safe and won’t guzzle the gasoline.
When you start from that basic framework and work your way up to the EX, EX-L and EX V6 models, more and more comfort features get added to the package. Obviously, the price will go up all well, but you gotta pay for what you get. With the Accord, it is almost always money well spent.
Accords are available as two-door coupes or as roomier four-door sedans. Though there aren’t any factory-installed options, Honda does provide a dealer-installed performance group with V6 coupes. It adds a rear deck or wing spoiler, front, rear and side underbody spoilers, special emblems, a chrome exhaust finish and more.
Under the Hood
That ‘more’ that is added to the tuned-up 2005 Accord coupe is a suspension kit. It creates a better road feel with new springs and shock absorbers that lower the vehicle's center of gravity. These special models also ride on big 17-inch wheels and tires.
There are two engines used by Accord models this year (not including the new Hybrid). The base engine is a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam inline 4-cylinder model. It is able to produce 160 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 161 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic are the two transmission types available with this powertrain.
Standard with V6 models is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 240 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 212 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. It can be teamed to either 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Standard safety is increase in 2005, as all models receive curtain side airbags. They join a security list that already includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, antilock brakes and an emergency inside trunk release.
EX models take off where the LX ended. On top of such things as air conditioning and power everything, they throw in a power sunroof, a driver seat with power height adjustment and adjustable lumbar support, an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer, steering-wheel radio controls and alloy wheels.
EX-L models add dual-zone automatic climate controls, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats and satellite radio.
