2005 Honda Accord | Review | Buying Guide
You simply will not find a more rewarding, reasonably-priced midsize car anywhere. Period. There is no doubting the Accord’s ability, its longevity, its comfort or its appeal. Almost like a broken record, the Accord continues to win accolades. This year includes yet another “Best Buy” title from Consumer Guide—though many more are sure to follow.
At the entry-level side of things are the price-leader DX and the midlevel LX (other Accords covered separately). They are Honda-to-the-core, meaning you can bank on at least five years of service, little hassle and pleasant driving experiences all around.
Standard safety is given a big boost this year, as all models receive curtain side airbags. They join a security list that already includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, antilock brakes and an emergency inside trunk release.
Under the Hood
There are two engines used by DX and LX models. The base engine is a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam inline 4-cylinder model. It is able to produce 160 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 161 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic are the two transmission types available with this powertrain.
Standard with LX V6 models is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 240 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 212 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. It can be teamed to either 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.
As usual, the 2005 Honda Accord has a good fuel rating, no matter which engine and transmission combo you choose. Power steering is standard with all models; LX V6 versions add traction control to the mix for better handling and surefootedness.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
LX models are offered as coupes and sedans, while the most inexpensive model, the DX, is only available as a sedan. Still, Honda apparently doesn’t feel right unless it provides a good deal of standard features.
Supporting that idea is the list of things you get with the DX. It includes cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, a center console, a folding rear seat, power windows, an AM/FM/CD player, a digital clock, a rear defogger and more.
LX models add automatic-off headlights, cruise control, air conditioning, power mirrors and door locks, remote keyless entry, illuminated visor mirrors and manual driver-seat height adjustment.
