2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited | Review | Buying Guide
All 2005 Grand Cherokee models have been improved on the inside, under the hood and outside, but the trim that most benefits is the high-end Limited model. It now has an even greater higher degree of luxury, comfort, power and ability.
The most noticeable change with the upgraded Grand Cherokee is readily apparent simply by looking at it. The all-new version is longer than the 1999-2004 version by 3.5 inches in wheelbase and 5 inches overall. This gives it a more stately appearance, both on and off the road.
In addition to new engines, new features, new all-wheel drive systems and its new look, the 2005 Grand Cherokee also rides better than ever. This is a result of a new suspension configuration. Front suspension travel is increased by almost 10 percent (more than one inch) compared to the 2004 Grand Cherokee, further improving the 2005 Grand Cherokee’s off-road capability.
Under the Hood
Limited models are quite a bit more powerful than their Laredo counterparts. Their standard engine is a 4.7-liter V6 engine that pumps out 230 horsepower at 4700 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 3700 rpm. For 2005, this rugged engine is coupled to a new 5-speed automatic transmission with a manual-shift gate and a tow/haul mode.
Limited shoppers can also opt for big, bad HEMI power. It comes in the form of a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. It will produce 325 horsepower at 5100 rpm and 370 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm. The 5.7 has Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System, which deactivates four cylinders under idle and cruise conditions to save fuel.
2005 Grand Cherokees can be purchased with rear-wheel drive or with one of two all-wheel drive systems: Quadra-Trac or Quadra-Drive. The former employs a new transfer case and Throttle Anticipate, which takes steps to maximize traction before tire slippage even occurs. The latter also includes limited-slip differentials.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Limited models blend sophistication with the ruggedness inherent in all Jeep models. Standard features for 2005 include dual-zone automatic climate controls, leather upholstery, a memory system (driver seat, mirrors and pedals), power-adjustable pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, a Boston Acoustics AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD/MP3 changer, rain-sensing wipers and more.
Options include a rear-obstacle detection system, a DVD player, a navigation system, heated front seats and a tire-pressure monitor.
