2005 Used Jeep Liberty Renegade Buying Guide
You don’t give a vehicle the title of Renegade without doing a few things to set it apart from the herd. The good people at Jeep certainly realized this with their aggressive Liberty model of the same name. Now whether they started with the name first and designed from there, or gave it the name after an inspired design session is unclear.
Either way, if you want to get noticed while you drive your compact sport utility vehicle around, the Liberty Renegade will satisfy. Though all 2005 Liberty models get a modest styling update, the Renegade definitely benefits the most. 2005 Renegades gain a flatter hood, taller grille, fender flares and other touches.
There’s no use holding back, so we might as well tell you what those other touches are. They include functional rock rails, four skid plates and available P235/70R16 all-terrain tires with wider, more aggressive treads. The 2005 Liberty Renegade is also available with an optional overhead light bar.
Under the Hood
If you look under the hood of the new Renegade model you will find a 3.7-liter V6 engine. It will produce 210 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The 3.7 is mated to either 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Though an SUV, the Liberty Renegade doesn’t completely suck up gas all the time. Fuel ratings for 2005 are as follows: 18/22 mpg (city/highway) with manual transmission models and 17/22 mpg (city/highway) with automatics.
All 2005 Liberty models offer rear-wheel drive or a choice of two 4WD systems, both with low-range gearing. Jeep's Command-Trac 4WD should not be left engaged on dry pavement, while Selec-Trac 4WD can be left engaged on dry pavement.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Renegades ride on 16" x 7" painted Mineral Gray Metallic cast-aluminum wheels. Their standard features list includes air conditioning, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, a center console, an AM/FM/CD player, a digital clock, a rear defogger, a rear wiper/washer, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and power mirrors, windows and door locks.
For increased safety, Renegade owners can add antilock brakes, curtain side airbags and a tire-pressure monitor. Chrysler’s UConnect hands-free cellular link is also available.
Additional options for 2005 include a navigation system, a 6-disc CD changer, heated front seats, an overhead console and Infinity speakers.
