2005 Lincoln LS | Review | Buying Guide
Offered in Base Luxury, Appearance, Premium, Sport) and Ultimate trim levels, the 2005 Lincoln LS continues to offer many choices and configurations for the luxury sports sedan segment consumer, something not normally found with premium models. This four-door offers a couple of engine choices, high-end interior amenity and luxury as well as solid performance capability, regardless of whether you choose V6 or V8 editions.
A series of enhancements for 2005 add style and technical merit. Style changes include a new front bumper fascia, new exterior colors (Norse Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Charcoal Beige Clearcoat Metallic and Bronze Clearcoat Metallic) and a new interior colour-scheme: Dark Stone / Medium Light Stone / Camel replaces former Dark Stone / Medium Light Stone two-tone. Technical additions include improved transmission and extra options available on all models: power adjustable pedals, side-curtain air bags and extended rear park assist. The Lincoln LS has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety "Best pick" rating five years running and the addition of the optional curtain-side airbags shows a continued dedication to safety.
Under the Hood
The two highly efficient engines available for the 2005 Lincoln LS models include a V6 standard on Luxury, Appearance and Premium trim levels, is a 3.0-liter V6 with 232 horsepower at 6750 rpm and 220 lb-ft of torque capability at 4500rpm. The rest of the group, sport and Ultimate models, come with a 3.9-liter dohc V8 engine that pumps out 280 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque. The Lincoln LS is a rear-wheel drive model.
Both engines deliver power through a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission that has been improved for smoother shifts in 2005. V-8s are fitted with the SelectShiftTM automatic transmission. This feature allows drivers to manually command gear changes.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2005 Lincoln LS models have five variations, all offering slightly different interior trim features. However, the base Luxury trim is not misnamed, it includes dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, cruise control, up-level audio and much more. The Appearance adds a couple of enhancements with memory settings, front seat power-lumbar adjustment an upgraded sound system and automatic day/night rearview and driver-side mirrors.
The Premium takes the lushness up a notch with wood and leather interior details. The Sport, in addition to the V8 motor, adds a sporty leather-wrapped steering wheel and aluminum interior trim while the Ultimate, at the top-level of performance and luxury, adds front seat heating and cooling, a power sunroof, and returns to the wood trim. Chrome alloy wheels combined with 235/50VR17 tires top-off the predatory flair of the exterior styling.
This year’s options are better than ever, as described above, however, the 2005 Lincoln LS option list also includes Sirius satellite radio, heated rear seats and Lincolns’ DVD/Touch Screen Navigation System which comes with the THX-certified sound system.
