2005 Used Lincoln Navigator Buying Guide

The 2005 Lincoln Navigator returns with a new engine and transmission for improved torque and a new transmission to control all that power. As with the Aviator, its mid-size sibling, it also comes with standard antiroll technology by virtue of the AdvanceTrac Roll Stability Control system.

A full-size SUV, truly a mammoth in the class and one of the largest vehicles on the road, the Navigator has power fierce and unrelenting. Its style audacious, neck jerking and robust. However, these traits are not a result of any arrogance on the part of its manufacturers. Rather, they are a necessity. If you want to make an imprint in the competitive full-size luxury SUV segment, you have got to bring your best. And the Navigator is Lincoln’s best, whether you choose the Luxury edition or the top-level Ultimate.

Under the Hood

The responsibility of powering the massive Navigator is no easy task. The new engine chosen for this unrelenting duty is a 3-valve 5.4-liter V8 model that is able to bring 300 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 365 lb-ft at 3750 rpm and increase on last year. The 6-speed automatic transmission replaces a 4-speed for improved shift smoothness and refinement and can be linked to either two or four-wheel drive, depending on what sort of tasks you may have in store for your Navigator.

As happy on the road as it is romping in the mud, the Navigator is every bit an SUV—don’t let its style and high class fool you. And even though it is a huge vehicle, it still handles quite well as a result of its four-wheel independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and stiff frame.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2005 Navigator has also had some design refinements. Changes include a new front fascia, standard chrome grille, revised side cladding and running boards; a number of new exterior colours, Light Tundra, Charcoal Beige, Satellite Silver and Vivid Red; and new 18-inch chrome euro-flange wheels with an improved pressure monitoring system

The new interior color for Lincoln is Camel with Light Parchment headliner and it sets off the many luxuries to be found in this premium quality vehicle. The Luxury model has many standard, for example, dual electronic automatic temperature controls, an AM/FM audiophile sound system with in-dash 6-disc CD changer (includes front sail-mounted tweeters and subwoofer), an analog clock, steering-wheel-mounted audio and climate controls, leather fold-flat seats, etc.

The Ultimate adds a power-operated liftgate, power moon roof, heated and cooled driver and front passenger seats and a power fold-flat third-row seat. Highlights of the many options available with the 2005 Lincoln Navigator include Lincolns’ DVD/Touch Screen Navigation System, Soundtouch THX-Certified Audio and a rear-seat entertainment system and power-deployable running boards.
