2005 Lincoln Town Car | Review | Buying Guide
Flagship for he Lincoln line-up, the 2005 Lincoln Town Car is an exercise in luxury appointments, standards that include the most advanced technological innovations for safety and amenity, and performance capability to spare.
2005 doesn’t mess with that recipe, in fact, it enhances the technological innovation part with safety features that make it a leader in the auto industry. These new safety features; front crash severity sensors, an occupant weight seat sensor and a seat track position sensor for the front passenger seats allow the airbag deployment to match the accident severity and the passenger’s size and position in the car.
Other changes for 2005 include changes in the options and trim levels which are refashioned and renamed to Signature, Signature Limited and Signature L.
Under the Hood
The power of the rear-wheel drive Town Car has also been something that tends to get overshadowed by the vehicle’s style and comfort. However, it is still there for 2005. A 4.6-liter V8, it pumps out 239 horsepower at 4900 rpm and 287 lb-ft of torque at 4100. A standard 4-speed automatic transmission controls the rear-wheel power. All Lincoln Town Car models come with 225/60R17 tires on alloy wheels. However, these can be upgraded to whitewall tires on chrome alloy wheels as a couple of optional extras.
The Lincoln’s comprehensive safety package has been improved this year, with the airbag improvements itemized above but it also includes standard rear-obstacle detection, all-speed traction control, dual front airbags, side airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, cornering lights and an automatic parking brake release.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
New for this year is a unique two-spoke steering wheel, which add to new styling along with three new exterior colors: Light Ice Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Charcoal Beige Clearcoat Metallic and Norsea Blue Clearcoat Metallic.
Standard features include power-adjustable pedals, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a dual-media sound system, premium leather seating surfaces and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control. Signature Limited models add on such amenities as a leather-wrapped steering wheel with wood inserts, a memory system (driver’s seat, pedals, mirrors) and heated front seats.
For options, there is Sirius satellite radio and Lincolns’ DVD/Touch Screen Navigation System that now includes THX-certified audio with a 6-CD Changer and satellite radio compatibility. A power sunroof is also available.
