Things haven’t been going so well for the L300 series of wagons and sedans. For some reason or another—whether it be competition, lack of advertising or market climate—Saturn’s well-rounded line just hasn’t caught on with the public. As a result, 2005 will only see a short run of production for the L300.

After that, it’s off to the automotive graveyard. To cap its final year, Saturn is only offering the L300 as a sedan. In another change, there will be fewer options for 2005, including the availability of just one base model. Everything else remains the same, so if you were once interested in the L300, you’d better buy one quickly.

The 2005 L300 will continue to use Saturn's dent and rust-resistant polymer panels for the front fenders, doors and bumper fascias; the other body parts are steel. This long-lasting exterior fabric matches the precise engineering components that do the same under the Saturn’s hood.

Under the Hood

Saturn may have dropped all but the base model for the L300’s final year of limited production, but it didn’t get rid of the strongest engine. On the other hand, it axed the old I4 and retained the V6.

The 3.0-liter V6 under the hood of the L300 sedan produces 182 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 184 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. The fuel economy for the 2005 model year is 20/28 mpg (city/highway).

Safety defines Saturn, and the L300 is a typical model from the GM division in this respect. The 2005 L300 is equipped with a standard four-wheel, antilock disc braking system (ABS), traction control, dual front airbags and head-curtain side airbags.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The L300 is a large sedan able to seat five passengers. It offers plenty of interior room and a modest 17.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

The standard package of the 2005 L300 sedan is quite plentiful, providing a nice range of practical and comfortable features. Some of those include air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a center console, a split folding rear seat, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player, a digital clock and a rear defogger.

The limited options list for 2005 includes a power sunroof, alloy wheels and a 6-way power driver seat.
