2016 Audi TTS Pros vs Cons. Should You Buy?

Why Buy a 2016 Audi TTS?

Should You Buy a 2016 Audi TTS? Here are the Pros and Cons

This is the year that many will opt to buy that sports car they have always dreamed of owning. While the cost of a Porsche is prohibitive for most, this high maintenance ride is not the only choice in town. The petite 2016 Audi TTS is an attractive sports car with some clever engineering under its exterior.

The Audi TTS offers a few changes for potential drivers this year. It's lost a little weight and picked up some muscle to help it keep up with those other heavy hitting sports cars. Drivers can now boast a turbocharged engine and enjoy responsive steering.

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 2016 Audi TTS – The Pros

1) The EA888 Turbocharged Four Cylinder Engine

The Audi TTS has a turbocharged engine increasing the power to a decent 292 hp at the lowest estimates and providing about 280 ft-lbs. Of torque. This gives that petite four-cylinder engine a lot of extra kick from the moment that gas pedal is pressed.

2) Excellent Steering and Agility

Drivers will love the responsive steering and smooth maneuvers of this sporty car. The TTS drives straight every time with zero torque steering. Naturally, the TTS also turns on a dime thanks to its weight reduction and lengthening the wheelbase slightly.

3) Driver Focused Dashboard

One of the biggest changes is the interior where engineers have a very driver-focused dashboard. Nearly all of the controls, temperature system, and radio have been re-positioned around the driver side of the vehicle. The temperature controls are also placed in the center of the air vents for a more compact look. This also prevents annoying passengers from changing the radio channels.

4) Virtual Cockpit

The touchscreen panel that was previously in the center dash is now gone. Instead, there is now an LCD screen that is positioned where the instrument panel used to be. This screen displays all of the important speed, mileage, and RPM information for the driver. Controls for the screen are positioned around the steering wheel.

5) Zero to 60 in Under Five Seconds

Anyone who wants a speedy car can find it in the 2016 Audi TTS. The manufacturer reports that the TTS goes from zero to 62 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds. This performance is thanks to its ultra light aluminum frame and turbocharged engine.

6) All Wheel Drive

Like all sports cars, the Audi TTS has an all wheel drive. It offers improved handling in wet, muddy and even dry terrain. The ability to provide power to each wheel individually also helps grip the road for faster acceleration.

7) Lightweight Feeling Overall

The engineers made this car lighter than last year's model at just under 3,200 lbs. It's unique steel chassis with aluminum frame helps keep the pounds off. This means the car also feels lighter and faster on the road.

8) Improved Sporty Design

Engineers also worked on making the 2016 Audi TTS look more like a real sports car. Last year's model was a bit longer and broader in the wheelbase. They have also altered the lines along the front end slightly and changed the grill for a more aggressive look.

9) Plenty of Safety Features

Despite being a lightweight, sporty car, the 2016 Audi TTS still offers many safety features. It features front and side airbags with a sensor that deactivates the passenger-side airbag is no one is in the vehicle with the driver. Tire pressure monitoring and self-leveling airbags help drivers keep the vehicle maintained. Plus, there is a remote anti-theft alarm and engine immobilizer.

10) Improved Sound

The Audi TTS also comes with a version of the "Soundaktor", a tiny speaker installed near the exhaust that enhances the engine sounds. This gives drivers a feeling that they are behind the wheel of a much more expensive sports car.

Reasons Not to Buy a 2016 Audi TTS – The Cons

1) No Manual Six Speed Transmission Available in the US

Unfortunately, Audi will not be shipping any TTS models to the US with a manual transmission. All TTS vehicles in the US shall come standard with a six-speed dual clutch transmission.

2) Only has Two Seats

The 2016 Audi TTS is not a family car. This coupe only has a disguised shelf where the rear seats would be on another vehicle. It makes a little bit of space for storing a purse or personal items, but not much else.

3) Very minimalist interior

The re-engineered dashboard may look sparse to some, especially on the passenger side. There aren't a lot of extra bells and whistles to keep passengers entertained. The same spare look is continued throughout the interior.

How It Stacks Up to the Competition:

The 2016 Audi TTS is kind of unique in that it is a sports coupe at a price that is not out of the range of many middle class drivers. Other similarly priced competitors don't have quite the same body style or sharp, contemporary look. Both the Mercedes-Benz SLK and the BMW Z4 are at close price points, but are convertibles. The Infiniti Q60 hasn't seen much in the way of updates since being released to the market in 2013.

Overall, the 2016 Audi TTS is a great choice for anyone looking for that high-end sports car feeling. On its own, the TTS is a sports car with a turbocharged engine and max speed of 155 mph. Drivers never have to worry about rain or snow with the all wheel drive and attractive hardtop coupe body.
