Why Buy a 2016 BMW X1?

Should You Buy a 2016 BMW X1? Here are the Pros and Cons

The 2016 BMW X1 offers many of the great traits of the BMW. For example, it has a sporty suspension, accurate handling, and a revved engine. Not to mention, the roomy and handsome interior offers you some of the best operation at a quieter level. With the turbo 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine, it may not be as engaging as its predecessor in terms of driving, but it can tackle bad weather and muddy roads without a problem.

What's New for 2016

What makes the 2016 BMW X1 wonderful is how it is more straightforward this time. BMW has taken the old formula of the first-generation vehicles, and they have corrected everything that was wrong or slightly off about the first generation. Another one of the great things about this model is that you also have more traction than what you had with its predecessor.

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 2016 BMW X1 – The Pros

#1: Straightforward Engine Menu

With the first generation, the engine menu was somewhat confusing. It became a huge confusion, but the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four Steptronic automatic transmission provides you with the best powertrain combo possible. We don't know if anyone will miss the setup, but the greater traction is a definite plus for the crossover segment.

#2: Economic Vehicle

With the xDrive28i, you can hit the road with 22 miles per gallon for city driving, and when you head to the highway, you will have 32 miles per gallon on the highway. The 2016 BMW X1 features an amazing horsepower of around 228hp, but that means it lost 12 horsepower from the first-generation model. Nevertheless, we dare you to try detecting the difference using a blind test. Your average individual is not going to know the difference.

#3: Improved Handling

Because the X1 uses a 0.9-inch wider model, it gains 2.5 inches in width compared to what the first-generation model offered. The 2016 BMW X1 is two inches taller, but it is an inch shorter in the overall length. What improved the handling of the 2016 BMW X1 was that they extended the cutting length of the overhang, which gave it better handling. These are subtle revisions that made a huge difference.

#4: More Customized Options

When it comes to the 2016 BMW X1, they shifted the chairs around, and they gave it ambient lighting on the doors and dashboard. You have five colors in leather to choose from, and they redesigned the dash to house a 6.5-inch iDrive screen.

#5: Starts at $35,795

If you choose the 2016 BMW X1, it went on sale at the end of October 2015 for $35,795. Considering that you will own a car that has the BMW name, that is a nifty price tag. Also, this car gives you some of the most exhilarating driving. After taking it to Mexico's Copper Canyon, a place with some real dangers in driving, the 2016 BMW X1 tackled the obstacle course without breaking a sweat. After miles of dodging scattered rocks, the crossover's brakes provide you with a lot of confidence on downhill descents.

#6: Great Safety Features

For safety features with this vehicle, you receive a driver airbag, a passenger airbag and side airbag. You also have integrated turn signal mirrors and electronic stability control. On the scorecard, it received:

  • 8.8 Critic Rating
  • 8.4 Performance Rating
  • 8.2 Interior Rating

#7: Solid Engineering

The 2016 BMW X1 has the best-in-class cargo space and the best-in-class performance at around 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. This vehicle has been created to amaze and delight. You also have excellent innovations and some of the exceptional handling that customers have come to expect from BMW.

#8: Elevated Seating Position

Are you looking for an elevated seating position? If so, the X1 gives both drivers and passengers an excellent all-around view. They designed the vehicle for maximum comfort and convenience. You also have an optional Panorama glass roof with a spacious feel.

#9: New Options

With full-LED adaptive headlights and power front seats as the standard, the X1 does not leave much to be desired. The Drive Assistance Plus package can also help you to receive what you are looking for. In addition, you have the option of a sliding and reclining rear bench seat that is optional.

#10: Improved Safety through Better Materials

Considering the X1 has a curb weight of around 3,660 pound, which is an improvement by 66 pounds lighter than its predecessor. BMW went on to say that this is because of the greater mix and intelligent use of the material in the structure and chassis.

Reasons Not to Buy a 2016 BMW X1 – The Cons

#1: Transmission Reluctant on the Downshift

The biggest flaw of the 2016 BMW X1 is that it shifts hard when you are going from gears one to three. Some people said that when they completely stopped, the car jolted from second gear to first, which is not a good thing.

#2: Very Compact

While the 2016 X1 is larger than its predecessor, it is still a very compact vehicle. Regarding cargo space and off-road capabilities, the X1 under performs compared to some of the other cars in its class.

#3: No Six Cylinder Engine Option

While it improved upon the first-generation model in some areas, it fell short regarding how engaging it was to drive: It was a little less fun. However, that does not mean that this is not a great car to buy.

The closest comparison to the 2016 BMW X1 would be the Audi Q3. They both compare closely in terms of price, size and mission. The Q3 does have a distinct advantage over the X1 in cargo space. Should you consider this car? If you are looking for a nimble crossover with a sharp interior design and a lot of features, this might be the choice for you.
