2012 Ford Explorer Highlights:
Ever since it was first introduced by the Ford Motor Company with the 1990 model year, the Ford Explorer has continued to be one of the leading SUVs in the world. The 2012 Ford Explorer has various different features which are sure to make it a popular choice for the 2012 model year.

The 2012 Ford Explorer will come with two different engine options for consumers. The first option is a 2.0-liter Ecoboost engine, which is a four cylinder engine that can produce over 240 horsepower. The second engine option, which is ideal for those that are looking to use the SUV for towing purposes, is the 3.5-liter, V6 engine, that produces over 290 horsepower. Both of the engines come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.

While the 2012 Explorer can come with all-wheel drive, the all-wheel drive capability can only be matched with the V6 engine option. Those that are looking to get the smaller of the engines will need to pair it with the front-wheel drive system. While the Ecoboost engine does not have the ability to be paired with all-wheel drive, it is ideal for drivers looking for better fuel efficiently. When paired with the Ecoboost engine, the Explorer will get 28 miles per gallon on the highway and 20 in the city. This compares to the V6 engine which will provide 25 miles per gallon on the highway and 18 in the city.

Reviews of the SUV’s handling system have been positive thus far. The SUV comes standard with a reputable traction control system, curve control, and roll stability control, which maximizes a driver’s control over the car.

The price point of the 2012 Explorer should also attract plenty of new car buyers. The average price paid ranges from about $28,000 to $39,000. The SUV comes standard with a three-year/36,000 warranty and a five year powertrain warranty. Many consumers tend to upgrade their warranty to the 10-year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost of a New 2012 Ford Explorer:

  • Example: Base dealer Invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of Options + Destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost. (Dealer Cost Example)
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost (calculated above) + Taxes/Licensing Fees - Rebate/Incentive = True Cost (You can get the rebates, incentives & invoice options pricing at Edmunds.)
