2012 Ford Focus Highlights:

The 2012 Ford Focus has been completely redesigned for the year and established Ford as a reliable and competing company in the smaller vehicle marketplace. Competing with cars such as the Mazda 3, Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic, Ford has really enhanced the features and look for the year.

The 2012 Focus has a redesigned 2.0L four-cylinder engine with 160 horsepower and is available with a six-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission, depending on the trim. It uses strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, with a four-wheel independent suspension and stabilizer bar in both the front and rear. The Titanium trim model goes from 0 to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds and the EPA estimates that the gas mileage is 26 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway and an overall 30 mpg with a manual transmission. The numbers increase by 1 with an automatic transmission, and selecting the super economy option increases each number by 2.

While driving the Ford Focus, you'll notice that the attention given to redesigning and making the interior sleek in appearance and functionality did not harm the vehicle's handling. It steers and handles well around corners and has little rolling. The manual transmission gives more control and offers a sportier experience, but lacks a sixth gear.

Those who are transitioning from an automatic to a manual transmission may find themselves using the dual-clutch automated manual which is slightly different from a traditional model. Some drivers report that the transmission tends to shift up too quickly, and doesn't want to downshift unless the throttle pedal is forced down. These drawbacks are primarily due to the importance of fuel economy.

The 2012 Focus ranges in price from $16,500 in the S trim to $22,200 for the Titanium trim.

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost of a New 2012 Ford Focus:

  • Example: Base dealer Invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of Options + Destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost. (Dealer Cost Example)
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost (calculated above) + Taxes/Licensing Fees - Rebate/Incentive = True Cost (You can get the rebates, incentives & invoice options pricing at Edmunds.)
