| 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid Highlights: |
The 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid is a vehicle that drivers may want to take a second look at before jumping onto the hybrid car bandwagon. Unlike its non-hybrid Civic counterpart, the 2012 Honda Civic hybrid seems a little unrefined, as though Honda slapped it together at the last minute because it wasn't paying attention to what was going on over at rival Toyota. Notable improvements over the 2011 model are scarce, but you'll find that the fuel economy has increased by a bit to 44 miles per gallon.
The 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid is powered by a 1.5-liter hybrid powertrain that produces 110 horsepower. Weighing in at 2,845 pounds, 200 pounds heavier than the standard Civic, which is powered by a 140-horsepower engine, the Civic hybrid feels sluggish. Where the non-hybrid Civic is actually rather fun to drive, the 2012 Civic hybrid feels more like a chore.
The 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid's additional weight doesn't help it to feel more planted on the road. The ride is rough and evocative of Civics that were produced in the 1990s. In addition, talking to your passengers requires you to speak up a bit, as road noise is a problem due to the removal of sound-deadening materials in an attempt to reduce the car's weight. Braking is also an issue with the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, which is much greater than competing hybrids and even its own gasoline counterpart.
Priced from $24,050, the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid is still an inexpensive entrant into the hybrid vehicle market. Coupled with the reduced monthly cost of fuel, it is a very competitive vehicle at the low end of the price spectrum. Although it does lack some refinement, drivers will find it to be a capable and affordable commuter vehicle whose styling doesn't scream "Hybrid!" while you're driving down the street.

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost of a New 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid:
- Example: Base dealer Invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of Options + Destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost. (Dealer Cost Example)
- What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.
Total Dealer Cost (calculated above) + Taxes/Licensing Fees - Rebate/Incentive = True Cost (You can get the rebates, incentives & invoice options pricing at Edmunds.)
