2012 Hyundai Sonata Highlights:
Ever since it was first introduced by the Hynudai Motor Company with the 1985 model year, the Hyundai Sonata has continued to be a very popular choice for consumers. While the car was initially introduced as an affordable mid-size sedan with basic features, it has been transformed over the past five years into a low-price luxury full-size sedan which comes with many of the same amenities found in far more expensive brands.

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata has been very well received by critics and consumers. One of the strongest selling points for the 2012 Sonata has been the engine performance, which is considered quite powerful compared to other similarly priced vehicles. The 2012 model year comes with two engine options. The standard 2.4-liter, four cylinder engine option produces just less than 200 horsepower. Those that choose to upgrade to the turbo charged engine, which is 2.0 liters and four cylinders, will receive nearly 275 horsepower.

Both the standard and turbo charged engines provide drivers with excellent fuel efficiency. The 2012 Sonata will receive 34 miles per gallon on the highway and 25 miles per gallon when city driving. Fuel efficiently falls off about 5% when coupled with the turbo-charged engine.

Most consumers that drive the Sonata have stated that the handling is not great, but is sufficient to meet the needs of the car and is comparable to other sedans. Those that are interested in receiving a sportier suspension and handling system could receive it by upgrading to either the SE or GLS Limited trim level.

Like all other vehicles produced by Hyundai, the Sonata comes standard with an industry best warranty program that provided five years and 60,000 miles bumper to bumper coverage and a 10 year and 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The newest model of the Sonata can be had for just under $20,000, or just under $28,000 fully loaded.

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost of a New 2012 Hyundai Sonata:

  • Example: Base dealer Invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of Options + Destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost. (Dealer Cost Example)
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost (calculated above) + Taxes/Licensing Fees - Rebate/Incentive = True Cost (You can get the rebates, incentives & invoice options pricing at Edmunds.)
