2012 Nissan Versa Highlights:

Redesigned for the 2012 model year, the Nissan Versa is a subcompact car available as a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback. With four-door models starting at about $10,500, the Versa stands as one of the best values in the economy car segment and one of the few remaining North American vehicles offered new for under $12,000. With comfortable seating for five and ample cargo space, the Versa is a favorite of active young people and budget-conscious families alike.

The 2012 Nissan Versa comes with two available engines: a 122-horsepower 1.8-liter I-4 in the 5-door and a 109-horsepower 1.6-liter I-4 in the 4-door. Both provide outstanding fuel economy, rated at 38 and 34 highway mpg, respectively. Three transmission options await Versa buyers: a 4-speed automatic; a new continuously variable transmission (CVT); and a high-performance 6-speed manual, which is rare at this price point. With the CVT and automatic transmissions, the Versa's zero- to 60-mph acceleration time averages just over eleven seconds; the manual picks up a bit quicker.

The 2012 Versa comes with an independent front suspension and a rear torsion beam axle with stabilizer bars at both ends. Its electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is speed-sensitive, meaning the Versa's steering ratio changes based on the car's speed. For added safety and comfort, the car has Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), extending the life of the car's front disc and rear drum brakes in equal measure.

The 'S' trim starts at under $11,000, but depending on which options are added the price of a 4-door 2012 Nissan Versa sedan can run upwards of $16,000--still a great value. 5-door versions begin at under $15,000 and can run to about $20,000. With a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, though, every Versa comes with Nissan-backed peace of mind.

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost of a New 2012 Nissan Versa:

  • Example: Base dealer Invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of Options + Destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost. (Dealer Cost Example)
  • What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.

Total Dealer Cost (calculated above) + Taxes/Licensing Fees - Rebate/Incentive = True Cost (You can get the rebates, incentives & invoice options pricing at Edmunds.)
