| 2012 Subaru Outback Highlights: |
The 2012 Subaru Outback is a crossover vehicle with the best features of a passenger station wagon and a sport utility vehicle. It has a roomy interior with a hidden storage area underneath the rear cargo area floor. The Outback comes in six powertrain and trim packages designed to suit every driver's wants and needs.
Subaru Outback engines are Boxer engines with horizontally opposed cylinders instead of an inline or V configuration. This lowers engine vibration and noise for a better driving experience. There is a 2.5 liter four cylinder engine with 170 hp at 22 MPH city and 29 MPH highway. The 3.6 liter six cylinder 256 hp engine gets 18 mph city and 25 mph highway. All models have all-wheel drive and vehicle dynamics control(VDC). VDC monitors powertrain performance and lateral g-forces to maintain the vehicle is driving where the driver wants to go. Traction control will detect slippage of one wheel and transfer torque to other wheels until the slippage stops.
The 2012 Outback offers three transmissions for the six different packages. The 2.5i and 2.5i premium have a six speed fully synchronized manual transmission with the Lineartronic continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) optional. The 2.5i Premium has the CVT as standard equipment. The 3.6R, 3.6R Premium and 3.6R Limited all come with a five speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel for driver convenience when using lower gears for traction or downhill braking.
The 2012 Subaru Outback has a new car limited warranty of 36 months or 36,000 miles. The powertrain warranty is 60 months or 60,000 miles. The rust perforation warranty is 60 months or unlimited miles. Prices range from $23,295 for the basic 2.5i to $37,811 for a fully equipped 3.6R limited.

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost of a New 2012 Subaru Outback:
- Example: Base dealer Invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of Options + Destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost. (Dealer Cost Example)
- What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.
Total Dealer Cost (calculated above) + Taxes/Licensing Fees - Rebate/Incentive = True Cost (You can get the rebates, incentives & invoice options pricing at Edmunds.)
