| 2012 Toyota Tacoma Highlights: |
Toyota didn't need to change much to continue the Tacoma's streak of being one of the best mid-size pickup trucks in the world. While the front end is slightly updated to give it a more menacing appearance, buyers are still presented with a pair of engine options for the 2012 Toyota Tacoma, several cab options, and a variety of different bed lengths. There are also several trim packages from which you can select, giving you the option of choosing a fully-decked out luxury pickup truck or a bare-bones work truck.
The engine options available for the 2012 Toyota Tacoma include a four-cylinder 2.7-liter engine that produces 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. The second available engine is a much more robust 236 horsepower 4.0-liter engine that cranks out as much as 266 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are classified as low emissions engines and are backed up by a choice of four different transmissions. The base transmission is a five-speed manual, but you can opt for a 6-speed manual, a four-speed automatic, or a five-speed automatic. The highest fuel economy you can expect is with the four-cylinder engine at 21 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.
The interior of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma provides potential buyers with a menagerie of options from which to choose. You can select the basic cloth bench seat for a basic work truck, or you can upgrade as high as leather seating surfaces in the decked-out four-door cab Tacoma.
The 2012 Toyota Tacoma drives well and has what can only be called excellent off-road capability. The engine doesn't feel overpowered, but accelerates well and maintains control of the wheels at all times. The Toyota Tacoma has over the years earned a reputation for being a near-unbreakable pickup truck, and the 2012 model year appears to be no different. Pricing starts out at $16,875 and stretches north of $30,000 for a fully-equipped truck.

Formula for Calculating Dealer Cost of a New 2012 Toyota Tacoma:
- Example: Base dealer Invoice price + the dealer Invoice price of Options + Destination - Holdback = Total Dealer Cost. (Dealer Cost Example)
- What is Holdback? A hidden amount that manufacturers give back to a dealer. It is a percentage of the MSRP or the Invoice price.
Total Dealer Cost (calculated above) + Taxes/Licensing Fees - Rebate/Incentive = True Cost (You can get the rebates, incentives & invoice options pricing at Edmunds.)
