GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD Overview:

Designed with a heavy-duty frame, the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 is built for drivers who need a hard-working pickup truck, Although the Sierra 2500 may not be quite as strong as some competitors, it is still more than capable of getting the job done. Helpful towing technologies give drivers a boost of confidence. Meanwhile, a big interior enables this truck to carry multiple passengers. User-friendly interior features further enhance the Sierra 2500’s appeal.

What’s New for 2022?

This year, GMC has renamed the truck’s base model. A new set of optional 20-inch wheels arrive as well.

What Styles Does It Come In?

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 is offered in three cab sizes: single, double, and crew. Buyers will also have two bed lengths to choose from. While rear-wheel drive is standard, many people will desire the pickup’s available 4X4 system.

What Are the Available Trims?

The Sierra Pro is perfect for drivers who need a strong work truck. Vinyl seats and floor covers prepare this trim for the daily grind. Drivers will appreciate the Pro trim’s easy-to-use infotainment system, which provides a 7.0-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration.

Not only does the SLE trim look more stylish, but it also has a more modern interior. Unlike the base model, it receives power door locks and windows. Cloth upholstery also comes standard. When on the go, drivers can take advantage of Sierra 2500 SLE’s integrated Wi-Fi hotspot. Other notable features include a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, and GMC’s versatile MultiPro tailgate.

Another level up the trim ladder is the leather-appointed Sierra 2500 SLT. A high-definition backup camera with Hitch View angle enhances the driver’s visibility. Other upgrades include remote engine start, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and power-adjustable front seats.

Featuring a special off-road suspension and undercarriage skid plates, the adventurous Sierra 2500 AT4 is the lineup’s most rugged trim. A 4X4 system also comes standard. Furthermore, this trim’s front seats receive ventilation functions.

No other trim is as luxurious as the Sierra 2500 Denali. Side steps give passengers easier access to the cab. Interior upgrades include premium leather seats, a Bose premium audio system, and wireless phone charging.

The Sierra 2500’s Exterior Styling

The new Sierra 2500 definitely has a strong presence. Its bold headlamps and massive grille will cause people to take notice. Diesel-powered models come equipped with a high-performance hood.

This truck's exterior styling will vary depending upon which trim you select. Featuring a plain-looking set of steel wheels, the base Pro model is made to handle tough working environments. Red tow hooks and body-color bumpers are found on the trail-ready AT4 trim. Meanwhile, the chrome-clad Denali trim features a unique grille and exclusive 20-inch wheels.

Driving Experience

There are two different powertrains available for the new Sierra 2500. The standard gasoline V8 engine develops 401 horsepower. GMC’s popular Duramax diesel engine is optional. It generates a monstrous 910 lb-ft of torque, which raises the truck’s towing capacity to 18,500 pounds. Aside from providing great pulling power, the diesel-equipped Sierra 2500 is also quite quick.

While the Sierra 2500 feels stable, don’t expect it to offer the agility of a smaller truck. However, this big rig is especially pleasing to drive on the open highway. Featuring a more rugged suspension and skid plates, GMC’s optional X31 off-road package makes the truck a better performer on rough terrain. Keep in mind that all versions of the Sierra 2500 can be upgraded with a 4X4 system.

Fuel Economy

The federal government does not list fuel economy estimates for heavy-duty vehicles. However, owners who have a diesel-powered Sierra 2500 have reported getting a combined 19.5 mpg.

Quality and Comfort

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 is spacious enough for families and work crews. This is especially true for the crew cab models, which provide more than 43 inches of rear legroom. While the truck’s cabin feels sturdy, some other trucks in the class are a bit more upscale.

Safety

The Sierra 2500 offers some highly recommended safety features. Folks who plan to do a lot of towing should invest in the truck’s Trailering Camera System. Meanwhile, an available digital review mirror helps drivers to overcome blind spots when hauling a load. Forward collision alert with active braking, blind-spot sensing, and lane departure warning are also available.

While the competition in today’s heavy-truck class is stiff, the new 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 brings a lot of great qualities to the table. It’s stylish, powerful, and offers quite a few beneficial towing features.
