2020 Audi A6 Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: 45 Premium vs 55 Premium

What 2020 Audi A6 Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

While high-quality sedans have been popular for a considerable amount of time, the overall market for them has steadily been in decline. This has been seen across the majority of key markets and has been felt by a large number of manufacturers.

However, this hasn’t been the first time that this has happened, with the sedan market bouncing back in almost all of these circumstances. The primary reason for this has been the fact that quite a large number of sedan manufacturers have seen the declining market as a reason to double-down on many of their core vehicles.

As a result, the majority of them have gone on to create vehicles in the class that has been much more high-quality than their predecessors, although that’s not to say that previous editions were of a poor quality. Instead, it’s meant that brands have had to readjust and realign their ranges for the demands of the market.

Audi has known this for quite a significant amount of time, with their A6 range undergoing a variety of changes since it initially debuted. The 2020 Audi A6 ranges sees the bulk of these changes, with the manufacturer having seen quite a steady drop in sales for the past several years.

While much of this has been driven by the fact that the sedan market as a whole has declined, there have been a variety of other reasons why Audi has needed to revamp its range. One of the largest of these is that many drivers have been flocking to its competitors, with the two most notable of these being Mercedes and BMW.

While the two firms have seen somewhat of a drop in sedan sales for the past few years, their E-Class and S-Series still outsell the Audi A6 range quite drastically. While much of this has been the result of new releases coming out, there’s still be quite a noticeable difference in overall sales volume between Audi and its primary competitors.

As a result, the auto-manufacturer had issued a complete overhaul with the 2020 Audi A6 range, with this being seen across both trim families, the 45 Premium and the 55 Premium. While both trim levels come with a variety of packages to take advantage of, these come with the same base engines with only a few tweaks and adjustments between them.

While many drivers may want to take advantage of the various packages that are on offer, the base trim levels offer quite a large number of features to take advantage of. Alongside this is the fact that many of these packages, such as the 2020 Audi A6 Premium TFSI S-Line, only offer a few small tweaks to the overall vehicle.

While this could mean a slightly different appearance, depending on the package, the overall vehicle remains virtually unchanged. This is primarily because the packages offer relatively little in the way of core changes, with the engine being virtually untouched with these optional upgrades.

The same can also be said for the majority of interior features that come with the vehicles. As a result, the real differences that many drivers will see can be felt when comparing the 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium and the Audi A6 55 Premium. Both of these come with the same set of optional packages, so the minor modifications that they can bring will be the same regardless of the trim level.

Despite this, the majority of drivers will be able to take advantage of an upgraded appearance from the previous A6 generations. Alongside this has been a few quite noticeable changes to the interior of the vehicle, which received an extensive overhaul from the last edition of the range.

Similar to many other sedans on the market, the 2020 Audi A6 offers quite an extensive amount of interior space to go along with the features that have been made available as standard. While there’s quite a noticeable price difference between the new Audi A6 and many of its competitors when they were initially released, the extra features more than make up for this.

Alongside this, drivers will be able to take advantage of quite a large engine, which can be seen with both the base trim and the higher-end level. As a result, there’s a significant amount of power available with the vehicle.

While there are a few sedans that can boast more horsepower than either of the 2020 Audi A6’s trims, these can be considerably more expensive. As such, the new edition of the vehicle can be a much more cost-effective choice than many people might assume.

The overhaul that the new Audi A6 range has gotten should be enough to attract many sedan lovers who had previously gone with some of the manufacturer’s competitors. While the engine and interior play quite a substantial role in this, the external redesign will also have quite a significant impact.

This is primarily because the new range is much more attractive previous generations of the Audi A6. While the optional package that buyers may take advantage of will play a role in this, the style appeal that can be seen with the 2020 A6 will undoubtedly be seen regardless of this choice.

As a result, when comparing the 2020 Audi A6 with previous generations, the new range should win in almost every aspect. While much of this will mean that Audi lovers will have quite an attraction to the range, the changes should be enough to convince many Mercedes and BMW sedan enthusiasts to take a second look.

However, the majority of people will still want to know what the core differences are between the 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium and 55 Premium are. While there’s quite a noticeable price difference between the two trims, this should be more than compensated for with the various features that the higher-end trim offers.

This will become immediately apparent from the difference in engine power that comes with both, although there are a few other noticeable differences between the two trims.

Compare the 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium Vs. 55 Premium Trim Levels. What’s The Difference?

While the 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium is more expensive than many other base sedan models available, there are quite a large number of features available as standard with the option. Alongside this is the fact that there seems to be much more on offer here than with many of the car’s competitors, which should make it just as cost-effective than many other models, if not more so.

These features should be apparent to many drivers from the get-go, which should mean that quite a large number of people will be drawn to the choice. Some of the largest features that the 45 Premium trim include a focus on the vehicle’s comfortability, which is something that the majority of drivers may find appealing.

For example, the front air conditioning system includes automatic dual-zone functionality, which should mean that the driver and front passenger should feel entirely comfortable regardless of the weather. Alongside this, the rear seats include a high-quality air conditioning system, although this is a manual and has separate controls, which may be a minor drawback.

The comfort levels in the 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium is enhanced further through the inclusion of heated front seats, which can be seen in both the cushions and the setback. As a result, drivers should be able to remain comfortable year-round with the choice. The last of these heated features is the exterior mirrors, which should mean that they stay fog-free for the majority of the year.

However, this doesn’t mean that Audi hasn’t gone the extra mile when it comes to comfort. In contrast, the manufacturer has included lumbar support in the driver’s seat, which should add an additional comfort layer and which should appeal to the majority of potential buyers.

Alongside this is leather seating, which also helps to add a significant amount of style and luxury to the vehicle’s interior. There are also a variety of infotainment features that the majority of people may find attractive, with this first being seen with the addition of a high-quality navigation system and three LCD monitors in the first row.

These should be quite user-friendly and which makes it quite easy to take advantage of all the technological features that come as standard with the 2020 Audi A6. Completing the infotainment features is a seek-scan radio which includes a large number of stations as standard, including HD, FM, AM, Satellite, and SiriusXM.

While this mightn’t be the most appealing feature included in the vehicle, it’s a nice finishing touch to an already attractive entertainment system.

Alongside these are a few notable safety features that are built into the vehicle as standard, with there being several highlights to this. The first of these is the inclusion of a parking assistance system. While the majority of base-level sedans limit this to either the front or the back of the vehicle, the 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium seems to feature this in both areas.

Coupled with this are fog driving lights in the front and rear, which should help to maximize visibility, regardless of the weather. Complementing this are the windshield wipers, which including rain-sensing technology that automatically turns them on and adjusts them according to the downpour.

The 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium also includes a sunroof in the first row, which takes advantage of an express open/close feature. Alongside this, there’s a large amount of customizability with this, as it features a large amount of tilt. While not a notable feature, it could be something that helps round out the functionality that many people will want.

One of the last notable features that’s included with the trim is a keyfob remote entry system, which applies to each of the sedan’s doors. As such, drivers and passengers should be able to get in and out with ease.

The 2020 Audi A6 55 Premium trim includes all of the above features as standard, as well as a few extras that may make many drivers consider the choice, regardless of the extra cost that’s associated with it. However, there mightn’t be as many differences between the two trims as many people may think, although the few that are there can be quite significant.

The most notable of these is a switch in the engine, with the new Audi A6 55 Premium having a V-6 3-liter engine as standard compared to the 45 Premium’s two-liter engine, which operates across four cylinders. As a result of this upgrade, buyers should be able to take advantage of a significant jump in horsepower, with this being from 248hp to 335hp.

Alongside this will be a similar increase in torque, which should be enough to attract the majority of power enthusiasts. The 55 Premium trim also features a few tweaks and adjustments to the sedan’s performance, which should mean that it handles just as well as the lower-end trim, if not slightly better.

Outside of this, there are few other differences between the two Audi A6 trims, although the 55 Premium does feature 19-inch machined aluminum wheels with painted accents. This is a large contrast to the 45 Premium’s silver-painted aluminum wheels.

While many drivers may expect a variety of other changes to the vehicle’s exterior with the change in trim, these are predominantly seen between the various packages that are available for both models. As such, each of these packages could be worth a serious consideration, if only for giving either 2020 Audi A6 trim a much sportier feel.

Which Trim To Choose?

While there are a few noticeable differences between the 2020 Audi A6 45 Premium and 55 Premium, these mightn’t be enough to justify the extra cost associated with the higher-end trim. Though the extra horsepower will be appealing to many drivers, the lower end trim does seem to be the much more cost-effective choice.

What should be noted, however, is that there are a variety of packages that many drivers will be able to take advantage of. While the primary changes that will be seen with these are focused on the exterior, there may be a few minor tweaks and modifications focused on the engine, as well as some of the interior features.

Regardless of which trim level a driver chooses, these could be worth considering as they’ll give the 2020 Audi A6 a much sportier feel. This should become immediately apparent from the exterior. Though the base trims are already stylish, the minor tweaks and adjustments seen on the outside of the car could be enough to justify the extra cost.

As a result, they should be considered regardless of which 2020 Audi A6 trim a person chooses.
