Luxury cars will always have a market. They provide drivers with comfortable cabins, cutting-edge tech, and powerful performance. Although not as competitive as the SUV market, there are several large luxury cars out there for buyers to consider.

The 2020 Audi A7 is one of these large luxury cars. It is regarded by many to be one of the better ones out there, offering drivers a composed ride combined with a wide variety of great features. Drivers will find that the A7 is very similar to the Audi A6. What sets the A7 apart is its fastback body design, which may appeal more to certain buyers.

This vehicle launched its second generation just last year. Two of the most note-worthy changes found in the redesigned model were the infotainment system and the standard powertrain, both of which were improved greatly. For the new 2020 model, there are no significant changes.

When an interested buyer looks at the Audi A7, they will discover that there are actually three different versions of the vehicle to consider. They go by the names Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. All of those names reflect the luxury-feel of the A7. Luckily, the vehicle has the features to back up these lofty names.

The best way to know which trim level is right for an individual buyer is to know exactly what makes them special. The following guide will help by laying out what drivers can expect to find in each trim level, with special emphasis on the differences.

Compare the 2020 Audi A7 Premium vs Audi A7 Premium Plus. What is the difference?

For many buyers, performance is the first concern they have when shopping for a new vehicle. The Premium trim level has the same powertrain as the other two options. It is a turbocharged 3.0L V6 that propels the A7 forward with 335-horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Also standard is a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This system powers the advanced stop-and-go technology that allows the gas engine to shut off for short periods at highway speeds.

The Premium trim, like both other options, pairs its engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The popular Quattro Ultra all-wheel-drive system is also standard across the board for the A7. For the entry-level Premium trim, the vehicle sits on 19-inch alloy wheels. Buyers can upgrade to 20-inch wheels if they'd prefer.

Several distinctive exterior touches help give the A7 Premium its look. These include the adaptive rear spoiler and the chrome trim around the windows. Moving onto illumination, the Premium trim gives drivers LED headlights and taillights, with the taillights including dynamic turn signal indicators. Useful automatic high beams are standard.

The side mirrors are quite fancy as well, coming with power-folding and auto-dimming capability. These mirrors are also heated and have a memory function. Buyers will also find turn signal integration in the side mirrors.

Moving into the cabin of the A7, buyers will find luxury touches like leather seating surfaces and tri-zone automatic climate control. In the front, the seats are heated with the driver getting eight-way power adjustment and four-way lumbar support. Also standard for the driver's seat is a memory feature. The steering wheel features three spokes and gives buyers shift paddles for a sporty experience.

Stylish LED ambient lighting is standard inside the Premium trim. There is also eye-catching contrast stitching on the dashboard and seating surfaces. Drivers get a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror. A panoramic sunroof is part of every trim's list of standard equipment. Rounding out the style touches inside the cabin are natural wood inlays.

As for tech, the Premium trim level lives up to its name. It gives buyers dual center display screens, with the top one being 8.8-inches and the bottom one being 8.6-inches. There is also a 7-inch color driver's information screen. Navigation is standard, along with Amazon Alexa integration. The Premium trim can have wired Android Auto or wireless Apple CarPlay integration with smartphones.

The standard sound system features ten speakers, including a 6-channel amplifier. Both satellite and HD radio are included. There are two USB ports in the front for data and charging, while the back seat gets two charge-only USB ports. The Premium also comes with Audi's advanced key, which gives drivers the ability to release the tailgate hands-free. A universal garage door opener is also included.

Being a fastback, the Audi A7 Premium offers drivers quite a bit of cargo space. Behind the rear seats, buyers find 24.9 cubic feet. This is quite a bit compared to rivals. It is also simple to fold down the rear seat thanks to the 40/20/40 split-folding feature that is standard for all trim levels.

When it comes to advanced driver aids, the Premium trim has a lot going for it. Front and rear acoustic parking sensors are standard, as well as lane departure warning. Also standard is Audi Pre Sense front, which includes forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking.

There are also plenty of more traditional safety features to be found in the Premium trim. It gives buyers a rearview camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. Also standard is an electromechanical parking brake and electronic stability control. The Premium also gives drivers an anti-lock brake system that includes brake assist and electronic brake pressure distribution.

As for the Premium Plus trim, it has the same mechanical features as the Premium. Outside, the taillights add fancier turn signal animation. The headlights get an upgrade as well, gaining an HD matrix-design. Rounding out changes to the exterior of this trim are useful headlight washers.

Inside, the steering wheel gains heat standard. This was an available add-on for the Premium trim. The other note-worthy change to the interior is the contrast stitching, which is extended to include the arm rests and knee bolsters for the Premium Plus.

Tech upgrades are significant. The Premium Plus still has two central touchscreens, but the top one is now 10.1-inches. There is no change to the size of the lower screen. The driver's information display, however, gets bumped all the way up to 12.3-inches. It also offers drivers two different display modes, known as classic and infotainment.

Music enthusiasts may prefer the Premium Plus due to its standard 16-speaker premium audio system. This system features a 15-channel amplifier. Also added for this trim is the Audi phone box, which is both a signal booster and a wireless charger.

Buyers may also gravitate to the Premium Plus for its extra standard and available safety features. Coming standard at this trim level is a top-view camera system offering a virtual 360-degree view of the vehicle. Available here is the Driver Assistance Package, which adds adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, intersection assist, and active lane assist.

Available on the Premium Plus trim is the S Line Package. This makes the A7 look and feel a bit sportier with specialized badging and a sport suspension that is 20mm lower than the standard one. Also added by this package are unique illuminated door sill inlays.

For consumers who are not a fan of that package, there is also the Black Optic option. With this, the A7 Premium Plus gets a more aggressive look. The most significant addition found here are 20-inch wheels with a titanium finish and all-season tires.

Compare the 2020 Audi A7 Premium Plus vs Audi A7 Prestige. What is the difference?

At the top of the short 2020 Audi A7 trim ladder lives the Prestige. Once again, no mechanical upgrades are made here. In fact, the Premium Plus and Prestige are more or less identical on the outside. The one exception are power soft-closing doors, which is a nice touch added by the Prestige.

Inside the cabin is a different story. The cabin here gets upgraded to four-zone automatic climate control. It gets more advanced LED interior ambient lighting with a wider range of color options. Rather than the heat-insulating glass found in previous trims, the Prestige has dual-pane acoustic glass.

Seating-wise, the driver and front passenger now get ventilation as well as heat. The Prestige also gives both of those seats 12-way power-adjustment with four-way power-lumbar support. Back passengers are not left out of the upgrades, with the rear seats gaining heat and a manual rear sun shade becoming standard.

There are no standard upgrades made to the Prestige trim when it comes to technology. That said, it is the only trim to offer the 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system. This system comes with a 19-channel amplifier. The 19 speakers are strategically placed to give the driver and passengers an immersive sound experience.

It is worth noting that many of the luxury features found in the Prestige trim can be added on to the Premium Plus. The Executive Package, which is exclusive to the mid-tier Premium Plus, adds things like the four-zone automatic climate control and ventilated front seats. It also adds the heated rear seats.

The Prestige trim level gains the safety aids that were optional on the Premium Plus level. It also gets a head's up display. This display works with the navigation to display the next step in the directions. It can also project a wide variety of vehicle information directly into the driver's line of sight. Optional for the Prestige trim alone is night vision with large animal and pedestrian detection.

There are three noteworthy packages available exclusively for the Prestige trim. The first one offers up 21-inch wheels, which is nice considering the standard wheel size remains the same 19-inches on all three trims. While all trims can be upgraded to 20-inches, the 21-inch wheels are unique to the Prestige.

Also available is the Luxury package. Adding this to the Prestige trim means getting upgraded Valcona leather seating surfaces. It also puts leather on the armrests, center console, and dashboard. The other significant upgrade here involves the front seats, which gain 18-way power-adjustment. They also get memory and massage capabilities.

The final option buyers may want to consider for their Audi A7 Prestige is the Adaptive Chassis package. This package aims at upgrading the performance solely. It does this by adding an adaptive dampening suspension and dynamic all-wheel steering. This technology is designed to increase the stability of the vehicle at high speeds.

2020 Audi A7: Which Trim to Choose?

With the 2020 Audi A7, there really is no wrong choice. Being a luxury vehicle, all three of the trims have the features only top trims of non-luxury vehicles typically offer. The Premium trim will have more than enough for many buyers.

That said, the Premium Plus trim is worth the extra money. The upgrades to the stereo system and infotainment touchscreen size alone make it more appealing. It also can have more driver aids added on, which may be a big selling point for some consumers. While the Prestige trim is tempting, its extra features tend to be more flashy than functional, making the extra cost hard to justify.

Buyers who find themselves behind the wheel of the 2020 Audi A7 Premium Plus will find they made a good choice.
