2020 Audi Q3 Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: Premium vs Premium Plus & Premier

What 2020 Audi Q3 Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

If you are in the market for a luxury SUV, you have likely come across some of Audi's vehicles. The 2020 Audi Q3 is one that might stand out based on its exquisite exterior and reasonable price tag. Of course, those things make the Q3 attractive on a first glimpse, but what is inside the cabin and under the hood might make a difference as to whether you choose to buy this vehicle or not.

So, just what does the 2020 Audi Q3 have to offer? That depends on which of its three trim levels - the Premium, Premium Plus, and the Premier - you are looking at. Each trim level is packed with standard features, and even the base Premium trim is considerably well-equipped. If you are someone who needs all the bells and whistles that a luxury vehicle can offer, the Premier trim will probably catch your attention. But the mid-level Premium Plus trim deserves some attention too, as it serves as a nice middle ground for buyers.

To give you a better idea of what you might be buying, we will review all three trim levels in comparison to one another. By the end of this review, you should have a clearer idea as to which - if any - 2020 Audi Q3 trim level is right for you.

Compare the 2020 Audi Q3 Premium vs Premium Plus Trims. What is the difference?

Let's get started by examining the 2020 Audi Q3's base trim, the Premium. The Premium has a modest starting MSRP of just over $34,000. Yes, this is a nice price, but what all does it entail? The Premium is powered by a standard 2.0-L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with stop-start functionality. This engine gets paired up with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system also comes standard. This powertrain is the only one available on the Q3's line-up.

Now that you know what to expect to see under the hood, here is what you can enjoy inside of the Q3's luxurious cabin. First of all, there a long list of standard infotainment features. There is a 10.25-inch digital cluster, 8.8-inch center display with MMI touch response, HD radio, Bluetootch connectivity, and smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You will also get a good number of driver aids, such as hill descent assist, high beam assist, rain and light sensing windshield wipers and headlights, cruise control (which has accelerate, coast, and resume), Audi drive select, Audi pre sense basic, and Audi pre sense front with pedestrian detection.

Other standard safety features include a rear view camera, electromechanical parking brake, electronic stability control (which comes with traction control and secondary collision brake assist), a power central locking system, and an easy-to-use LATCH system for young children in the rear.

Of course, the first thing you will notice about the 2020 AUdi Q3 is its exterior. The outside of this vehicle has quite a few distinguishing features, and the Premium has some worth mentioning. The vehicle rides atop 18-inch 5-arm wheels and comes equipped with all-season tires. If you go for the S-Line variant, you get bigger, 19-inch 5-twin-spoke wheels. On the front, there is a Q-design singleframe grille offsetting the front fascia. LED headlights and taillights, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors with integrated LED turn indicators, high-gloss aluminum surrounding the windows, a power tailgate, a vehicle immobilizer, and privacy glass for the rear all come standard as well. The S-Line has some of its own unique design elements, giving it a sportier vibe.

The Premium's cabin is cooled and heated by a dual-zone climate control system that evenly distributes air to the front and rear seats inside of the Q3. Up front, the driver gets to handle a three-spoke steering wheel with multiple controls mounted onto it. The steering column is tilt and telescoping, thereby giving the driver an easier time finding a good driving position. There are also micrometallic silver inlays, a panoramic sunroof, extending sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors for the driver and passenger, and a manually-dimming rear view mirror. Also note that the seats are clad in leather trim, letting you know this is definitely a luxury vehicle.

Both front seats are heated and have four-way power adjustable lumbar support and eight-way power-adjustable functionality. The split-folding 40/20/40 rear seat is able to slide and has seat backs that recline for extra passenger comfort. The cargo floor is adjustable and has a storage area below the floor for the cargo cover. There are electric child locks in the rear and, if you get the S-Line variant, unique S-Line aluminum door sills.

If all of that is not enough, you can opt for the Convenience Package. This gives you features like Audi advanced key (which has keyless start, entry, and stop along with hands-free tailgate release), Audi side assist (which includes lane departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert), a parking system with front and rear parking sensors, an anti-theft alarm system with vehicle immobilizer and motion sensors, the Home Link universal garage door opener, and a 90-day trial to SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

That still might not be enough though. That's where the mid-trim level, the Premium Plus, comes into play. This trim gives you all of the Premium's standard features but adds quite a bit more. So, what exactly do you get for the extra cost of this trim?

That SiriusXM 90-day trial that comes optional on the Premium is standard on the Premium Plus. Also, Home Link and Audi phone box (which has a signal booster and wireless charger) come equipped. Otherwise, expect to have access to all the standard infotainment features, such as Bluetooth, smartphone app integration, and the 10-speaker, 180-watt, 16-channel sound system.

As far as driver aids go, the Premium Plus sees the addition of Audi advanced key. Audi side assist and the parking system plus get added into the mix as well. Overall, this is quite a substantial number of helpful driver aids and should meet a lot of driver's everyday and emergency needs.

Only a few things change on the Premium Plus's exterior, For starters, the front and rear fascia get the full LED light treatment. There are also some signature daytime running lights that get equipped, making them more unique. The anti-theft system also comes standard, and the S-Line variant has its own creative flair that helps to set it apart.

On the inside, you will find that the cabin has a few notable differences as well. You still get the same leather seats, panoramic sunroof, and dual zone climate control. But you also get the added benefit of having ambient interior lighting, power lumbar support for the passenger seat, a frameless automatically dimming interior rear view mirror with a compass built into it, and aluminum spectrum inlays. It is just enough to set this cabin apart from the Premium's cabin.

There are several more packages that get tacked on, should you be interested in any of them. The Driver Assistance Package gives you Audi adaptive cruise control with the stop and go function. The S-Line gets the option of having a 20-inch Wheel package, which swaps out the all-season tires for sticky summer performance tires. The S-Line also has the option of equipping the Sport Interior Package, which comes with contrast stitching on its sport seats, a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with shift paddles, and brushed aluminum, matte-finished inlays. The S-Line gets one more package, the Alcantara Interior Package. This package adds orange Alcantara inserts on the front and rear door armrests and on the dashboard.

If you want even more, there are three stand-alone options for the Premium Plus. You can choose to get rear side air bags, brown gray natural wood inlays in a matte finish, and a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium audio system with a massive 15 speakers, 680 watts, and a 16-channel amplifier. It pushes out crystal clear sound and is perfect for music lovers who need concert-like sound quality.

Compare the 2020 Audi Q3 Premium Plus vs Premier Trims. What is the difference?

The Premium Plus offers a hefty amount of standard features and a few great packages and stand-alone options. So, how could the 2020 Audi Q3 possibly get any cooler? Well, the line-topping Premier trim somehow manages it.

Quite a few additions get made to the infotainment set-up. The list of standard features expands with the addition of Audi virtual cockpit, which gives you a huge 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with both Infotainment and Classic mode. MMI touch response gets a 10.1-inch center display and is able to recognize your handwriting. MMI Navigation plus adds a voice control system to the vehicle, and Audi connect PRIME and Audi connect PLUS online services get added on. Also, the smartphone app integration system becomes wireless. The Bang & Olufsen sound system that is optional on the Premium Plus is standard on the Premier.

The list of standard driver aids also gets a few important - and handy - additions. This set-up includes a top view camera system, park steering assist, and Audi adaptive cruise control with stop and go functioning.

You will not see too many changes made to the exterior of the Premier. However, there is one alteration that is worthy of mentioning, and that is the side mirrors. They become power-folding, power-adjustable heated side mirrors with an auto-dimming function for the mirror on the driver's side of the vehicle.

The interior gets a few minor upgrades as well. These include the ambient lighting package plus and a stainless steel trunk sill. Other than that, you should expect the interior to look relatively similar to the Premium Plus.

There are a few package options left for the Premier. You can get the orange Alcantara Interior Package, the Sport Interior Package, and the 20-inch Wheel Package, which, on the Premium Plus, are only available for the S-Line variant.

Which Trim to Choose?

As you can see, the three trim levels on the 2020 Audi Q3 are all well-equipped and pretty high-tech. Still, all of them are cozy, give a smooth ride quality, and have features that are fairly easy to use. And, for a luxury vehicle, it is hard to overlook their reasonable price tags.

But which trim level is going to appeal to the most drivers? That honor goes to the mid-level Premium Plus trim. It has a ton of standard features that cater to the average driver's needs. The optional sound system is a fantastic add-on if you can afford it, and the S-Line variant opens up some cool optional packages. Of course, not everyone is going to need those features. The Premium Plus is a solid middle-ground in this line-up and should meet (and likely exceed) a lot of buyers' expectations.
