2023 Audi A5 Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: Premium vs Premium Plus and Prestige

What 2023 Audi A5 Trim Should You Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

If you're looking for a luxury car that offers style and more, the 2023 Audi A5 could be your ideal ride. With three body styles - hatchback, coupe and convertible - this stylish set of wheels has something to suit every taste.

The A5 gets a few upgrades for the 2023 model year. There are standard Matrix design LED headlights integrated seamlessly into the front fascia, and there are fancy new 18-inch wheels that have a sleek five-spoke design to them. But, as part of the second generation of the A5 introduced in 2018, there are not too many other big changes of which to speak. As is the case with the other Audi vehicles on the market this year, this Audi comes with an interior rich with high-tech gadgets but will not come off as being too big for its britches. Of particular attractiveness is the centrally placed 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen display, on which you will see some seriously clear graphics.

Whether you're looking for power or efficiency, the Audi A5 offers a tailored solution. Choose between two turbocharged 2.0-L four cylinder options - 45 TFSI and 40 TFSI each providing up to 201 horsepower with either 273 lb.-ft of torque (45) or 236 lb.-ft of torque (40). Both are mated to an advanced 7 Speed Dual Clutch automatic transmission that routes power through All Wheel Drive capabilities, giving drivers stability in any road condition. With such great flexibility across engine choices and drivetrain configurations, find your ideal match on the Audi A5 today.

Now, this leaves the question of: Which trim level should you get equipped on the 2023 Audi A5? There are three to choose from: the base Premium, mid-tier Premium Plus, and the line-topping Prestige. All three are jam packed with standard and optional features, so you will probably need to take some time to think about what best meets your needs. But reading through this trim level comparison should help you figure out which trim you would like to make yours.

Compare the Premium vs Premium Plus. What is the difference?

The 2023 Audi A5's line-up begins with the base Premium trim level, and this car is anything but basic. It, of course, comes with those new standard matrix design LED headlights, which serve to enhance visibility in the dark. You also get the A5's 18-inch wheels made from alloy material. The outer side mirrors have a heating function to help melt ice off of them on cold winter days. On the coupe and Sportback variants, you get a panoramic sunroof that lets in a lot of extra light and air flow when you most desire it. Also, the Sportback offers a power liftgate in the back for even easier access to the cargo area. If you equip the upgraded 45 TFSI engine, you get a sport-tuned suspension included in the mix, providing a slightly stiffer ride quality.

The A5 Premium's cabin is truly remarkable, with more than enough features to satisfy any luxury vehicle enthusiast. Enjoy comfort and convenience with a tri-zone automatic climate control system for individual personalized temperature customization, plus leather upholstered front sport seats that are power adjustable and heated; not to mention ambient interior lighting.

Technology is in no shortage on the A5 Premium trim level. In this vehicle, you will get to enjoy using the 10.1-inch central touchscreen infotainment display along with a 7-inch digital instrument panel display. Your smartphone apps can be integrated via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and you do get a couple of standard advanced driver aids. Forward collision mitigation will warn you of a potential oncoming collision and will apply the brakes for you in order to avoid the crash. If the A5 starts to drift outside of its lane, the vehicle's lane departure warning will sound off.

There is an optional package you can add that is known as the Convenience package. It includes parking sensors for the front and rear of the A5, keyless entry, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and a steering wheel that can be heated up. You also get side mirrors that are power folding and automatically dimming. Adaptive cruise control lets you set a safe follow distance from the vehicle in front of you and will adjust according to the changes in traffic flow.

If you decide to move on up to the Premium Plus trim level, you will get everything that comes on the Premium as well as quite a few extra creature comforts. The Premium trim level's Convenience package becomes standard issue on the Premium Plus trim, and you get quite a bit beyond that as well. The Premium Plus gives you a set of upgraded LED headlights as well as a fancy 12.3-inch digital instrument panel inside of the cockpit. The driver's seat gains memory settings so you can easily get into your preferred driving position. The armrests and center console are given a synthetic leather wrapping around them.

Tech features abound on the Premium Plus with the addition of SiriusXM Satellite Radio (which comes along with a free trial period that you can use), a wireless charging pad for your cell phone with a built-in signal booster, and a downright impressive 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system that serves up some seriously crisp, concert-like audio quality.

A few more advanced driver aids come on the Premium Plus trim level. The Premium Plus tacks on a 360-degree surround-view camera system, which provides you with a top-down view of everything surrounding the outside of your Audi A5. There is also a lane keeping assist system, and this will gently steer the Audi A5 back into the driving lane if it starts to stray over the line. Adaptive cruise control also comes equipped, as does a blind-spot monitoring system with a rear cross-traffic alert. The latter will let you know if a vehicle is driving in your blind spot when you go to change lanes or switch it into reverse.

Compare the Premium Plus vs Prestige. What is the difference?

At the very top of the 2023 Audi A5 trim level line-up is the aptly named Prestige trim level. The Prestige incorporates everything that comes on the mid-tier Premium Plus trim level, but it makes a number of upgrades that are definitely worth discussing here.

For starters, its Matrix design LED headlights come with laser lighting, headlight washers, and unique animations. A traffic sign recognition system accompanies the integrated navigation system, which is easy to switch over to if you do not want to use your smartphone's nav app. The front seats gain a ventilation function, and the Sportback's rear outboard seats gain their own heating function.

A head-up display will project important driving and vehicle data onto the windshield in front of your eyes. This lets you keep your eyes on the road in front of you and your hands on the wheel. Also, there is an automated parking system that will steer you into a parking spot with little to no intervention on your behalf.

There are a few more optional packages and stand-alone features that you can get equipped on the 2023 Audi A5 that you might wish to consider tacking on. First, there is the Black Optic package. In this aesthetics package, you get special black and aluminum accents, upgraded 19-inch wheels, and red brake calipers.

Ventilated front seats can be ordered for the Premium or Premium Plus trim levels. The Sportback can be outfitted with rear passenger side airbags, and the 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system is an option for the base Premium trim level if you want that as an upgrade.

Final Thoughts

The Audi A5 of 2023 is the epitome of luxury and cutting-edge technology. From its driver aids to tech features, you can count on a driving experience that showcases comfort as well as safety. No matter which trim level you choose, every option promises an exceptional quality ride; however storage space may be somewhat limited in comparison - making it the only slight downside when selecting your ideal trim.

The mid-tier Premium Plus trim of the luxury model offers buyers an optimal balance between value and indulgence. Providing more than what is offered in the entry level, but at a lower cost compared to all–inclusive top tier trims - it's no wonder why this option appeals to savvy customers seeking out luxurious features without breaking their budget.

The Premium Plus gives you a ton of value for the cost. Getting Audi's Virtual Cockpit Plus is a huge bonus since it comes with the full digital instrumentation display. The upgraded 12-speaker B & O sound system is also a clear advantage to buying the Premium Plus trim level, and the inclusion of the 360-degree surround-view camera system certainly helps sweeten the deal with its high tech approach to safety. Having adaptive cruise control and all the contents of the Convenience package make things even better.

While the hatchback variant offers the most interior space, the coupe and convertible offer a two-door design that you cannot find too easily in this segment anymore. Having so much variety from one line-up is nice, but Audi does not overwhelm you with choices. Still, we think that the hatchback with the Premium Plus trim level outfitted on it is absolutely the way to go if you are going to buy the 2023 Audi A5.
