The 2021 Cadillac XT4 is a small crossover SUV that can accommodate up to five people. There's a surprising amount of room inside of a small package here. The XT4 gives passengers around 100.6 cubic-feet of space to stretch out in. There's plenty of room for your groceries and other cargo too. You can get a maximum of 48.9 cubic-feet of storage space with the rear seats folded down.

Being a Cadillac means being a luxury vehicle, no matter what class that vehicle is in. This small SUV is no different. It offers the smooth, quiet ride quality that Cadillac is known for. The interior fit and finish is excellent and all of the materials are top quality. There are tons of convenience features and luxury appointments inside of the XT4.

There are three trim levels available for the 2021 Cadillac XT4. Every one of them is available in a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration. Every trim level is also equipped with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This engine produces an impressive 237 horsepower with 258 pound-feet of torque.

Acceleration and overall performance is great in the XT4. Handling is excellent, especially with an all-wheel drive model. This also makes the XT4 a safer vehicle and a better performer on wet or slick pavement. The engine is accommodated by a smooth-shifting, 9-speed automatic transmission.

Every trim level has the same body style with four doors and a rear hatch. They all offer the same performance and fuel economy. You can expect to get around 24 to 26 miles-per-gallon in combined driving on the highway and in the city. Front-wheel drive models account for those extra two miles-per-gallon.

Compare the 2021 Cadillac XT4 Luxury vs the Premium Luxury Trim Levels. What Is the Difference?

With so many things remaining the same between trim levels, you may be wondering what the actual differences are. Mostly it comes down to convenience features, safety equipment and added technology. The base model is called the Luxury, signifying that even at this level, Cadillac is offering something of high quality.

The Premium Luxury is basically the same except for some upgrades and added features. On the outside of these vehicles, both are equipped with LED headlights and taillights. A power sunroof is optional for both. The Premium Luxury adds on roof rails and illuminated door handles.

The exterior mirrors are heated and painted to match the body color for both trim levels. The Premium Luxury model adds auto-dimming and power-folding features and has integrated turn signals as well. Both trims come equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels with a 10-spoke design. The wheels on the Luxury model are painted in a Bright Silver finish. The Premium Luxury wheels come in Pearl Nickel.

The wheels on both models are outfitted with a set of all-season tires. Both models have the option for larger, 20-inch wheels in a variety of different designs and styles. The headlights in the Luxury model have an automatic on/off feature. The Premium Luxury one-ups this by adding tunnel detection to this feature.

Moving up to the Premium Luxury trim will get you a hands-free power lift-gate. Most of the remaining exterior differences are minor and cosmetic in nature. The Premium Luxury has access to a few packages that the Luxury model doesn't. These include a Trailering Package and a Technology Package.

Both vehicles offer the Stabilitrack electronic-stability-control system with traction control. This system monitors and modifies engine torque and braking power to help keep you on your intended path. This is especially useful during emergency maneuvers while you're trying to avoid a collision.

Both trim levels have MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link suspension in the rear. They both offer Hill Start Assist and Front Pedestrian Braking. Emergency Braking is standard on all three trim levels. Automatic Stop/Start is a feature that cuts off the engine when you sit still in traffic. This helps to improve the overall fuel efficiency of the SUV.

Electric power steering, power locks and power windows are all standard for every trim. The Premium Luxury trim has the option for Reverse Automatic Braking to help prevent rear collisions. Every trim comes with a tire inflating kit and a Tire-Pressure Monitoring system.

All GM cars come with Teen Driver technology nowadays. This system monitors the driving habits of any younger drivers in your household. It gives you a report so you can make sure they're exercising safe driving habits. It also allows the owner to set certain parameters for new drivers and to turn on or off specific vehicle features.

When it comes to safety, every XT4 model offers 8 airbags that cover the driver and every passenger seat. A Safety Alert Seat detects the likely direction of an impending crash. It then sends haptic feedback to the driver via the seat vibrations. This can aid you in taking decisive action before an accident occurs.

Every trim level gets a rear-vision HD camera for better view of what's behind you. In the safety department, the Premium Luxury trim gets some options that are unavailable for the regular Luxury model. The rear camera can be upgraded to a surround-vision camera. Premium Luxury owners can also tack on Automatic Parking Assist.

The first two trim levels both have some of the same options for extra safety features. Some of these include Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, a Following Distance Indicator and a first-aid kit. All three trim levels come ready for OnStar and Cadillac Connected Services.

The driver's seat gets 8-way power adjustments and 2-way lumbar control. The front passenger seat gets 6-way power adjustments with 2-way lumbar control. This is the case for both trim levels. The Premium Luxury gets the option of upgrading the passenger seat to match the driver's seat. This trim level can also add on heated and ventilated front seats.

Cadillac includes plenty of cup holders, map pockets and other small-item storage spaces throughout both vehicles. There's a 4.2-inch screen for the Driver Information Center in the gauge cluster. The infotainment system offers its own touchscreen display as well.

The Infotainment system has a 7-speaker audio setup. Both trims can upgrade this to a premium system by Bose. There are USB ports for connecting or charging smartphones and other devices. The Premium Luxury trim gets the additional option for wireless charging. The infotainment systems are basically the same for these two trim levels. Both are compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The sound system is compatible with SiriusXM satellite radio. Cadillac even gives you a free trial. All three trim levels have an infotainment system that is 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capable. All three trim levels have the option for an additional rear-seat infotainment center too. This provides two 8-inch diagonal screens, two sets of wireless headphones and a DVD player. It's a great add-on for anyone who will frequently have kids or other passengers in the back seats.

The Premium Luxury adds on ambient lighting for the interior. It also has memory features for the driver's seat, outside mirrors and the telescoping steering column. The rear-view mirror in the Premium Luxury has automatic dimming. It also offers a sill plate and an area shade for the rear cargo section.

Compare the 2021 Cadillac XT4 Premium Luxury vs the Sport Trim. What Is the Difference?

The Sport trim level, as the name suggests, is the sportier version of the 2021 Cadillac XT4. Keep in mind that it still features the same engine and transmission system as all of the other trim levels. There's no major difference in performance here. It's mostly just a sportier appearance package. You can, however, opt for an Active Sport Suspension with this trim level.

The Active Sport Suspension works via continuous damping control technology. It constantly adjusts to the road conditions for optimal performance. This certainly improves the handling and gives the XT4 sportier driving dynamics. The Sport trim also comes with red-painted brake calipers. The remaining mechanical features are the same as the Premium Luxury model.

On the outside, the Sport model comes with 18-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels. These come in a Diamond Cut, Argent Metallic finish. Another new feature for the Sport model is Front Cornering Lamps. These help to light up the path ahead, even when it's around a curve or corner.

As part of the appearance upgrades, the Sport trim comes with a lot of glossy black trim on the outside. This covers parts of the lower fascia, the roof rails and the moldings around the windows. In addition to LED headlights and taillights, the Sport model also gets LED turn signals. The front grille of this trim has a unique, aggressive design and a glossy black finish to match the rest of the trim.

On the inside, the Sport model gets 4-way lumbar adjustments for the front seats. These seats also now get power-adjustable bolsters. The steering wheel on the Sport trim comes wrapped in premium leather. You also get alloy sport pedals. Paddle shifters on the steering wheel allow for manual movement through the gears, even though this SUV has an automatic transmission.

All of the remaining interior features are the same. Both trims also share identical safety features and driver-assist technology. The Premium Luxury model and the Sport model both have the same infotainment systems and audio setup. For the most part, they both have access to the same packages and options too. For example, both can have a rear-seat infotainment package added on.

At this point, it is worth noting that all three trim levels share the exact same warranty coverage. The bumper-to-bumper, limited warranty is for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Corrosion coverage lasts for four years or 50,000 miles as well. The powertrain is covered for five years or 70,000 miles.

Which Trim To Choose?

The name Cadillac is synonymous with the very idea of the American luxury vehicle. This has been the case for over a century now. Cadillac is in fact one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world. For decades, when one thought of a luxury car from Cadillac, they thought of a typical sedan.

With the popularity of large SUVs and smaller crossover SUVs ruling America's roads, Cadillac took their luxury-car know-how into the modern era. They build luxury vehicles of every sort now. If you want a high quality crossover SUV, the XT4 is a fine choice.

For many drivers, the base model will be just fine. Many of the missing features from the Luxury trim can be added on for a nominal fee. The real joy in owning a Cadillac, however, is that it's all about owning the best, even if that means some excess and non-essentials. For this reason, we recommend going right to the Premium Luxury or Sport models. Which one you choose simply depends on your personal preference of the aesthetics.
