The CT5 is a great option for anyone in the market for an upscale and sporty sedan.
Cadillac only makes three trims of the CT5, but note that it also makes the CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing. These two models are considerably more luxurious than the CT5 is, as they have more advanced technology, better mechanical components, and more premium exterior and interior elements. They have much higher price tags to match. Because they're so different from the regular trims, they won't be included in this CT5 trim comparison.
With the three regular CT5 trims, there's still a lot to offer. They can come either with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, and they have several impressive safety and technology systems. Cadillac knows how to treat its customers well, and prospective buyers will be happy to see so many upscale amenities in the cabin of this model.
Compare the Luxury vs Premium Luxury Trim. What is the difference?
The Luxury trim of the Cadillac CT5 has only one option for the engine, and that's a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine with four cylinders. This engine does well; it can generate 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
With the Premium Luxury, Cadillac provides two powertrain options. The first is the same turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that the Luxury has, and the other is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. Having the V6 results in significantly increased performance. The engine gives the CT5 335 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. Either way, there would be a ten-speed automatic transmission.
The downside of having the more powerful engine is that it's less efficient. The regular engine can get an estimated 23 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. In comparison, the twin-turbo V6 can earn an estimated 19 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway. Presumably, having all-wheel drive is a bit less efficient for each of the engines. Given the long-term costs of fuel, these are all things to be mindful of.
Both of these trims of the Cadillac CT5 handle themselves well. As mentioned, they can come with all-wheel drive, but if this option is not selected, they would have rear-wheel drive. An independent five-link rear suspension does a great job of keeping things smooth. If someone prefers to upgrade the brakes on the Premium Luxury, there's the opportunity to get Brembo V performance front brakes and blue brake calipers. Having a bit of the blue poke out is a nice touch that's sure to be noticed.
18-inch wheels are standard on the sedan. On the Luxury, the alloy wheels have a bright silver finish. 20-inch wheels with a gloss black or dark android gloss finish are available. On the Premium Luxury, the standard wheels have a silver finish. There are more options with this trim, including 19-inch wheels and a few different 20-inch versions.
The side mirrors on the Luxury and Premium Luxury are body-colored and have heating elements and integrated turn signals. With the Premium Luxury, the driver's side mirror can automatically dim when it detects bright lights. In addition, those mirrors can be upgraded to power-folding ones.
Little things like door handles might not seem too significant in the big picture, but they can add to the style of the vehicle. The Luxury has standard door handles that match the color of the car. The Premium Luxury has bright-accented door handles with illumination, and this makes them look more distinct. The small LED lights on the door handles also serve to welcome drivers as they approach their vehicles.
The Premium Luxury has automatic high beams. These IntelliBeam lights can turn on and off depending on whether other vehicles are near the Cadillac. Both trims have LED headlamps and LED taillamps, with the Premium Luxury having available LED front cornering lamps to help when taking turns on dark roads.
An UltraView power sunroof is available on all trims of the Cadillac CT5. This type of sunroof has glass that spans both rows of seats. The Premium Luxury, but not the Luxury, can further be equipped with a hands-free trunk and illuminated front sill plates.

On the Premium Luxury trim, enhanced automatic emergency braking uses radar and camera technology. Cadillac has given both of these trims pedestrian detection, HD rear vision cameras, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and rear cross-traffic monitoring. A head-up display is only available on the Premium Luxury. It would give the driver more information about speed, safety alerts, and other things that may be important to note. While being easy to read, this display doesn't interfere with visibility at all.
Adaptive cruise control is part of the Premium Luxury's offerings. It can adjust the vehicle's speed if traffic has caused things to slow down or speed up. The Luxury, in contrast, only has traditional cruise control that can maintain a set speed.
The two trims have great technology packages. They have wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi connectivity, three total USB ports, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. The standard touchscreen on a CT5 measures ten inches and comes with natural voice recognition. Personalized profiles for different drivers are available.
With both the Luxury and Premium Luxury, navigation is available. Navigation would offer turn-by-turn directions along with real-time traffic alerts. Another piece that can be added to the Premium Luxury is a 12-inch HD reconfigurable information cluster.
On the Luxury, things feel pretty nice, thanks to the leatherette seating and leather-wrapped steering wheel. The type of leatherette that Cadillac uses with the CT5 is called Inteluxe. Heated front seats are available, but not standard, unfortunately.
Power-lumbar support is standard with this vehicle. On the Luxury, there's a two-way power lumbar support on the front seats. With the other trims, the power lumbar support is a four-way version.
Other improvements found on the Premium Luxury are leather upholstery with mini-perforated inserts, ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a two-position memory system for the driver's seat, outside mirrors, and power-adjustable steering column. In addition, this trim can be upgraded for an additional cost with dozens of other components. Those extras include a digital rearview mirror, massaging front seats, ventilated front seats, and different color schemes for the seats.

The Sport is the most athletic of the bunch. However, it's not available with the twin-turbo V6 engine. It does have some options that aren't found on any other trim, and those are performance suspension, magnetic ride control, and a mechanical limited-slip rear differential. These systems would constantly be monitoring inputs to make the right adjustments to improve handling and stability.
Remember that blue brake calipers are available on the Premium Luxury. Those can also be installed on the Sport. If someone wants a different look with the Sport, they can choose red brake calipers instead.
It's really the style of the Sport that makes it unique. On its exterior, it features a sport mesh grille with a dark-finish, a rear spoiler, and transparent outer-lens taillamps. It rides on 19-inch wheels that have a pearl nickel finish. Those wheels are matched with all-season, run-flat tires. Other choices are 19-inch satin graphite wheels or a few different 20-inch wheels with 20-inch run-flat tires.
Black moldings around the windows give the Sport a more edgy appearance. They match the gloss black rocker molding extensions. A rear spoiler is only standard on the Sport, while it's optional on the other trims. With this trim, Cadillac has taken away the illuminated door handles. For whatever reason, Cadillac chose to make heated front seats optional on every one of its CT5 trims, and a heated steering wheel is available across the lineup as well.
The Sport goes back to having leatherette seats instead of genuine leather. Its steering wheel is a little different than what the others have. It has a thick rim with alloy paddle shifters that can really stand out. Going along with the aesthetic, the cabin has alloy sport pedals.
Many feel that the Sport has more supportive front seats. Those seats have power seatback bolsters so that passengers can find the preferred amount of cushion or support. The seats also have cushions that be manually adjusted for length. These features are only optional on the Premium Luxury.
In most of the other areas, the Sport shares things in common with the Premium Luxury. They've been given the same amount of standard and available technological offerings, and they have identical safety packages. They're both a step above the Luxury in this regard.

For these reasons, the Premium Luxury is the 2022 Cadillac CT5 trim that's most recommended for prospective buyers.
