2022 Cadillac CT5 Pros vs Cons. Should You Buy?

Why Buy a 2022 Cadillac CT5?

Should You Buy a 2022 Cadillac CT5? Here Are Some Reasons For and Against

The 2022 Cadillac CT5 is the epitome of a modern luxury sedan with a rich American heritage. Still in its first generation on the marketplace, this midsize car is designed by one of the most iconic domestic auto brands of all time. Available in three editions, this lavish sedan offers two turbocharged engines, an all-wheel drive and other performance-tuned features.

What's New for 2022?

The 2022 Cadillac CT5 drops several exterior colors from the previous year, including Velocity Red and Dark Moon Blue. However, the all-new Blaze Orange Metallic is optional for the Sport edition. Arguably one of the most sophisticated driving aides ever launched by Cadillac, the Super Cruise technology is available for this luxury car. Providing true hands-free driving, this innovative technology is available with two packages.

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 2022 Cadillac CT5 – The Pros

1. Potent Turbocharged Engines

Standard on the 2022 CT5, the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine block pumps out a total of 237 horsepower when using premium unleaded gasoline. Having an inline-four arrangement and a twin-scroll turbocharger, this default powertrain yields a maximum of 258 pound-feet of torque on the low end of the tachometer. Optional on the Premium Luxury edition, the 3.0-liter V-6 unleashes up to 335 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. This twin-turbo engine and the twin-scroll turbo engine include the Automatic Stop/Start with disable technology for enhanced efficiency.

2. Dynamic Drivetrain

Running on a rear-wheel drive with an axle ratio of up to 2.85, the 2022 CT5 has aggressive tendencies on the road. Such an axle ratio also applies to the all-wheel drive, which includes a continuously variable clutch and two-speed transfer case for optimum transfer of torque. The RWD and AWD are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission system, which takes advantage of the updated Electronic Precision Shift for smooth changes in gear ratios. When equipped with the V-6 twin-turbo engine and RWD, this luxury Cadillac goes from 0 to mph in approximately 5.0 seconds. The twin-scroll turbo engine accelerates the car from 0 to 60 mph in the upper 6-second range.

3. Sporty Mechanical Hardware

Available with the Magnetic Ride Control from General Motors, the 2022 CT5 offers a pleasant ride on any paved road. Continuously monitoring the ground, this patented mechanical technology adjusts the damping parameters in only 5 milliseconds. A performance-tuned suspension system provides an even better ride on the highway or the track. This high-end Cadillac sedan offers the exclusive Brembo V Performance front brakes with four-piston calipers for reliable stopping. Tuned for spirited driving, a mechanical limited-slip differential maximizes traction in the rear tires.

4. Attractive Wheel Options

Measuring 18.0 inches in diameter, the 2022 Cadillac CT5's standard alloy wheels have the Bright Silver finish. The Diamond Cut and Android Gloss applications are optional for the Premium Luxury's 18.0-inch wheels. Otherwise, this high-end trim rolls on 18.0-inch wheels with the Manoogian Silver design. Some accents that are available for the car's 19.0-inch include Midnight Silver, Pearl Nickel and Satin Graphite. The 20.0-inch wheels come in the Gloss Black and Dark Android finishes. Some of the wheels may be paired with run-flat tires that have all-season or summer-only ratings.

5. Elegant Exterior Profile

This midsize Cadillac sedan offers several rich paint options for its body, such as Wave, Garnet, Infrared and Blaze Orange. Some installations that match the body's color include a rear spoiler, heated side mirrors, door handles and bodyside moldings. A bright grille and bright window surrounds accentuate the luxurious appearance of this car. Optional on the Luxury edition, the monochrome Cadillac emblems certainly add unique appeal to the front fascia. Rock moldings with extensions make a great pair with the front splitter for aggressive and sophisticated styling.

6. Exterior Lighting Options

Standard on the 2022 CT5, the powerful headlamps include the Tunnel Detection technology and automatic deactivation after the ignition system is shut off. These LED headlights have unique pipes that deliberately disperse beams for optimum visibility and unique aesthetics. When the car travels slower than 15 mph, the front LED cornering lamps move in sync with the front wheels. The Lighting Package adds illuminated front sill plates to this midsize Cadillac sedan. Additionally, the standard LED taillamps make this vehicle more visible to other motorists.

7. High-Quality Visual Technologies

The 2022 CT5 offers a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster with an HD interface and a fully reconfigurable arrangement for enhanced productivity. Featuring a multi-touch design, a 10.0-inch HD monitor is part of the legendary Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system. This luxury sedan is also available with a head-up display that projects key data within the driver's natural line of vision. The traditional rear view mirror is available with the optional Rear Camera Mirror, which shows wide views of whatever is behind the trunk. Integrated turn signal indicators are appropriately installed on the power-adjustable, power-folding exterior mirrors.

8. User-Friendly Infotainment

The updated CUE console inside the 2022 CT5 provides wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This advanced infotainment unit is loaded with the Connected Apps, Amazon Alexa and wireless Bluetooth for additional syncing with mobile devices. Positioned on the center console, the Rotary Infotainment Controller provides convenient shortcuts for managing the CUE suite. A 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and the myCadillac Mobile App are some other high-tech highlights of this luxurious Cadillac sedan. Made by the legendary Bose brand, the car's premium sound system is available with nine or 15 speakers that play songs on SiriusXM 360L.

9. Luxurious Interior Appointments

Power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation are optional inside the 2022 CT5. These climate-controlled seats are wrapped in Whisper Beige leather with Jet Black accents. Adopting the stunning Sedona Sauvage design, semi-aniline leather with chevron-shaped perforations is available for this midsize sedan. The shift knob and steering wheel are covered in soft sueded microfiber for a good grip. The dashboard and interior door panels are available in the eye-catching Morello Carbon Fiber or Twenty-Two Carbon Fiber trimming.

10. Smart Safety Technologies

The 2022 CT5 is equipped with the Automatic Emergency Braking that may prevent frontal collisions during the day at speeds below 50 mph. This lavish midsize sedan also offers the Following Distance Indicator and Forward Collision Alert technologies that enhance the driver's awareness of potential accidents. Measuring the distance to nearby objects, the Rear Park Assist may prevent low-speed impacts in tight spots. Additionally, this premium Cadillac model offers the exclusive Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, which may be safely activated on certain highways.

Reasons Not to Buy a 2022 Cadillac CT5 – The Cons

1. Small Interior and Trunk Space

For its midsize platform, the 2022 Cadillac CT5 has a relatively cramped cabin. This luxury sedan offers only 42.4 inches of legroom and 39.0 inches of headroom in the first row. The rear passengers get only 37.90 inches of legroom and 36.6 inches of headroom. When taking extended trips, three adults will surely feel the confined space in the second row. Having a storage volume of only 11.9 cubic feet, the trunk is certainly small by modern standards.

2. Base Trim Lacks Advanced Ergonomics

The 2022 CT5 Luxury base model is furnished with standard front bucket seats, which offer 12-way adjustments for the driver and 10-way adjustments for the front passenger. However, these seats lack power adjustments for the lumbar cushion and seatback bolsters. Moreover, the entry-level trim doesn't have a manual mechanism for adjusting the length of the lumbar cushion for the front passenger. The Luxury model comes standard with a manual mechanism for the tilt-and-telescoping steering column. Higher-level editions have a power-adjustable function for the steering column.

3. Base Model Difficult to Handle in Reverse

Parking the 2022 CT5 Luxury trim may be difficult because the driver lacks access to several important technologies. For example, this base edition isn't available with the Reverse Automatic Braking and Rear Pedestrian Alert. Even with some guidance from the standard Rear Park Assist, the driver may struggle to confidently handle this sedan in reverse. Despite having the HD Rear Vision Camera, the trim isn't available with the more advanced HD Surround Vision Camera.

How It Stacks Up to the Competition:

2022 Cadillac CT5 vs 2022 Lexus IS

Having a similar starting price as the 2022 Cadillac CT5, the 2022 Lexus IS truly belongs on the luxury market for sedans. Under the hood, this Lexus model has a 2.0-liter turbo engine that produces only 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 3.5-L V-6 engine doesn't help the IS model in challenging the capabilities of the six-cylinder engine on the Cadillac sedan. Creating up to eight gear speeds, the Direct-Shift automatic transmission on the Lexus model isn't on par with the 10-speed gearbox on the CT5 model.

2022 Cadillac CT5 vs 2022 Acura TLX

In terms of the MSRP, the 2022 Acura TLX is on fair playing grounds with the 2022 Cadillac CT5. Having a twin-scroll arrangement for the turbocharger, the TLX's 3.0-liter engine can't crank out more than 354 lb-ft of peak torque. The CT5's twin-scroll turbo powertrain beats this torque output by up to 51 lb-ft. Having a digital interface, the TLX's standard 7.0-inch Multi-Information Display doesn't match the quality and versatility of the CT5's 12.0-inch instrument cluster. This luxury Acura sedan doesn't have any optical systems to match the Cadillac's Rear Camera Mirror and LED Reflective Windshield Collision Alert.

2022 Cadillac CT5 vs 2022 INFINITI Q50

As the only sedan on INFINITI'S 2022 lineup, the Q50 is packed with lots of premium amenities. This sporty model extracts up to 300 net hp from a 3.0-L engine with twin turbochargers. Cranking out 295 lb-ft, the standard V-6 powertrain doesn't threaten the Cadillac's V-6 engine in the torque department. This lavish INFINITI sedan only offers seven gear combinations from the electronically controlled transmission. The most comfortable front seats inside the 2022 Q50 only have eight-way adjustments, which don't match the ergonomics of the CT5's standard seats.

Conclusion

Sold in three trim levels in the USA, the 2022 Cadillac CT5 is a popular choice for buyers in the entry-level luxury segment. This midsize sedan offers some of the most sophisticated safety features in its class, including the latest Super Cruise technology. The Brembo V brakes, a rear spoiler and rear-wheel drive highlight the sporty tendencies of this premium Cadillac car.
