Compare the Luxury vs Premium Luxury Trims. What is the difference?

The base trim level for the 2022 Cadillac XT6 is called the Luxury model. Cadillac didn't want anyone to think of this trim as a budget buy, and they're right. This is still solidly in the luxury category. The next level up is called the Premium Luxury. Both models seat seven and have room for 78.7 cubic-feet of cargo.

Both the Luxury and Premium Luxury are available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive variations, according to the customer’s individual needs and preferences. Unlike rear-wheels, the all-wheel drive models come with a special Driving Mode Select feature with a Touring mode, a Sport mode, and an Off-Road mode for outback wanderings and adventures. The base trim Luxury model runs on a hearty 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which creates 237 horsepower with 258 pound feet torque. This engine also has Start/Stop Technology for better efficiency, which switches off the engine atomically when not needed. However, this convenient feature can also be disabled if the driver so desires.

The 9-speed automatic transmission is electronically controlled with overdrive and gear-range select, which gives birth to smooth, effortless automatic shifting. This engine has a 19-gallon fuel-tank capacity. The average fuel economy of the 2022 Cadillac XT6 Luxury reaches around 21 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway.

A notable mechanical feature of the Luxury includes 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, which helps prevent wheel lockup and maintains steering control during braking on most slippery surfaces. With the advent of impressive performance features like the Electric Power Steering Assist and Electronic Parking Brake you can buckle up and drive with more confidence than ever. Further, the Electronic Traction Control and Automatic Emergency Braking works for a safer drive on wet, slippery surfaces and lends extra brake power to mitigate or prevent unwanted collisions.

Riding on 18-inch multi-spoke aluminum wheels, the Luxury flaunts a statement-making exterior that cannot go unnoticed. They are paired with a set of all-season tires and perfect in their Bright Silver finish whether in speed or standstill. Cadillac offers a full size spare in an 18-inch steel model with a compact tire; however, stock wheels can be swapped out for a 20-inch set - and they are available in various designs and color schemes.

The Luxury trim gets automatic on/off headlights that turns on the lights to normal low-beam brightness when detecting a certain level of darkness, along with other exterior lights when darkness is detected. As you shut off the engine and leave the car, the lights remain lit as you walk away and turn off after a set time to help save battery life.
Both headlights and taillights are high-end LED models with LED daytime-running lights. Plus, the included IntelliBeam auto high-beam lights kick off by themselves when needed depending on surrounding traffic conditions. The hands-free liftgate conveniently opens or closes when the system senses the key fob and the driver kicks their foot under the left-hand side of the rear bumper over an image of the Cadillac Crest projected under the vehicle.

Moving on to the interior, the Luxury trim receives a rear spoiler and an UltraView power sunroof. The glass gloves open with the push of a button. A power sunshade curbs harsh sunlight and keeps things cool on summer days. On the rear window, an intermittent wiper provides for a clear view of what's behind the XT6.

On the inside of the Luxury trim, one can find 6-way power seat adjusters up front. These front seats are also heated for those cold winter days. There's a color Driver-Information Center, power locks and power windows. A Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control System will keep everyone comfortable in all three rows, no matter what the weather is like outside.

Remote Start, a rear window defogger and a Universal Home Remote are standard on all three trim levels. This trim level in particular features a memory system that saves settings for two drivers. The leatherette upholstery feels premium and the steering wheel is also covered in genuine leather. The Luxury model gets Keyless Open, Cruise Control and a dual-note horn.

The Luxury is fitted with a premium Bose sound system with a total eight speakers to blast your cabin with music. The infotainment system can be controlled via the 8-inch color multi-touch screen, through some controls on the steering wheel or through Voice-Command Technology. You can even make hands-free calls with compatible smartphones. The system is compatible with both of the popular Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps.

There are a total of 8 USB ports for connecting and charging devices through the infotainment system. It also works with the GM Teen Driver safety technology. This is a system that monitors young, secondary drivers of the vehicle and gives the owner a report so they can monitor and mentor new drivers. It also allows for settings to be fixed to a key FOB so good driving habits can be encouraged.

The stereo is compatible with SiriusXM satellite radio and Cadillac even throws in a free 6-month trial for new buyers. When it comes to safety features, all models get seven standard airbags. There are front bags for the driver and passenger with an additional airbag for the driver's knees. There are also seat-mounted side-impact airbags up front. Last of all, there are head curtain airbags that cover all three seat rows.

Even the base trim level gets high-end driver-assist tech such as Front-Collision Detection, Front Pedestrian Braking and a Following-Distance Indicator. Besides, all models of the XT6 get an HD rear-view camera and Intelligent Brake Assist. The Luxury model uses Lane-Keep Assist with Lane-Departure Warning to make sure the driver stays safely in their own lane. There's also a Lane-Change Alert with Side Blind-Zone Alert to keep drivers aware of their surroundings.

Every trim level of the XT6 gets a Tire-Pressure Monitor to make sure those tires aren't underinflated or overinflated. A Passenger Sensing System detects whether or not there's a front passenger. It can then disable or enable the front-passenger airbags as needed. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert increases driver awareness even further. Cadillac also throws in a road-emergency tool kit to help patch tires if needed.

Moving up to the Premium Luxury trim comes with some major performance upgrades. This trim gets a new engine. It now comes equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. It once again gets Start/Stop Technology and a 9-speed automatic transmission. It comes in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variations just like the base trim level.

The more powerful V6 engine takes a slight hit when it comes to fuel efficiency, but not significantly so. It also has a bigger 22-gallon gas tank to make up for the difference. A 2022 Cadillac XT6 equipped with a V6 should see around 18 miles-per-gallon in the city and 25 miles-per-gallon on the highway. The Premium Luxury trim also gets some new options such as a performance suspension system, a heavy-duty cooling system and Hitch Guidance with Hitch View.

For the exterior, the Premium Luxury model gets a new set of 20-inch 6-Split Spoke alloy wheels with a polished finish. There's an Advanced Security System with locking wheel lugs, a locking steering column door-lock shields, sensors and an alarm. A hands-free power liftgate makes loading up the cargo hold easy even when one's hands are full. Cadillac also gives buyers more choices in general for colors, wheels, trim and grille design with this trim level.

The Premium Luxury now has rain-sensing windshield wipers. On the inside, this trim level gets 2-way power adjustable lumbar support added on to the front seats. The steering wheel now comes heated to match those heated front seats. The upholstery gets upgraded here to real leather with perforated inserts. The steering column is now power adjustable.

Going wireless is easy with the convenient wireless phone charging system on this trim level. The audio and infotainment systems remain the same. Once again, Cadillac provides additional choices for the interior on the Premium Luxury that are not available for the plain old Luxury models. Furthermore, Night Vision can be added on for perfect viewing in the dar and the camera can also be upgraded to surround vision.

When it comes to safety features and driver-assist features, both trim levels come exactly the same. The Premium Luxury yet again gets additional options here. There's an available Surround-Vision Recorder. This is a great feature to have in order to identify would-be thieves or to prove your case in traffic court. Automatic Parking Assist with Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control are available as well.

All the features listed for the Luxury model are transferred to the Premium Luxury model except for where upgrades have been made. On top of this, a few more interesting perks get added on. The main difference, however, is its more developed and more powerful V6 engine under the hood.

Compare the Premium Luxury vs Sport Trims. What is the difference?

After the Luxury and Premium Luxury models, there's the Sport model. This is the third and final trim level of the 2022 Cadillac XT6. It comes with the same 3.6-liter V6 engine as the Premium Luxury model. True to its name, it also gets a few more performance-enhancing features. While the horsepower, torque and fuel-economy specs are all the same, the Sport model offers improved steering and handling.

Unlike other trims, the Sport trim is available only in all-wheel drive. Further in contrast to the first two trims, Sport Control AWD is standard and only available in the Sport, with dual independently controlled clutches perfectly distributing torque to the wheels that need it. The Brembo performance brakes in this model provides precise, consistent braking whilst the eye-catching rear red calipers adds some visual flair to an already dominant image.

The suspension system gets some improvements for the Sport trim level. There's now a chassis with real-time damping. Damping forces are adjusted every two milliseconds with this setup. The upgraded suspension system adjusts seamlessly to the road conditions. The Sport model gets new sporty wheels too. These are a set of sharp 12-Spoke Diamond Cut alloy wheels with a Dark Android Satin finish inside of the pockets.

The Sport's heavy-duty cooling system helps the engine dissipate heat more efficiently, thereby maintaining vehicle performance. On the exterior, gloss black roof rails enhance the appearance whilst a set of 20-inch 12-spoke alloy wheels with Diamond-cut Dark Android Satin pockets elevate the Sport to a powerful stature. The interior features, seating, audio and infotainment system all remain the same. The Sport also gets most of the same options offered on the Premium Luxury for both exterior and interior features.

The Premium Luxury and Sport share the same safety and driver-assist features. Similarly, the safety equipment offered to Premium Luxury buyers are also offered to Sport buyers. The key difference is that the Sport model performance is more upgraded than the Premium Luxury.

Final Thoughts

All three trim levels are great vehicles that look exotic, feel luxurious, and perform immaculately. The 2022 Cadillac XT6 makes a great choice for larger families looking for three rows of seats in a mid-size SUV. For most buyers, the best trim will be the Premium Luxury model as it has the muscular V6 engine and loads of convenience and safety features.

The improved handling of the Sport models is nice, but most drivers will be able to live without them. This is, after all, an SUV and not a sports coupe. The Premium Luxury truly handles well enough as is, and it strikes a great balance between cost and features. It's also highly customizable with plenty of optional features, exterior colors and interior-color choices.
