2020 Chevrolet Traverse Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: L vs LS & LT, RS vs Premier & High Country

What 2020 Chevrolet Traverse Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

The Chevrolet Traverse range has been well-received since it was first unveiled, although it’s undergone a few notable redesigns in the years since then. Two years since the last overhaul, the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse has seen a variety of tweaks and modifications, many of which should draw a particular amount of interest from many SUV enthusiasts.

Similar to many of the previous generations of the vehicle, there are quite a large number of trims to take advantage of. While the choice should mean that drivers will find a model that’s right for them, the number of options could be slightly overwhelming for many potential buyers.

This could be because there are quite a large number of features available as standard with each trim level, which means that there are a variety of differences to know about. However, there are a few notable similarities between each that the majority of SUV lovers will want to be aware of, with many of these being driven by changes from the previous generation of the Chevrolet Traverse range.

Perhaps the most notable of these is that the 2020 edition sees the removal of an optional engine upgrade, the four-cylinder turbocharged option that was previously available with the RS trim. As a result of this, each of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse trims utilize a V-6 3.6-liter engine.

While this does offer an impressive 310 horsepower and a large amount of torque, the lack of optional upgrades to the engine could leave many buyers feeling somewhat underwhelmed. Despite this, there is a range of differences between each of the trims that should help sway a person’s choice of which one to buy.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse L Vs LS Trim Levels. What’s The Difference?

Given that the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse L is the base trim of the SUV, it’s naturally the most affordable among each of the options. This hasn’t meant that the brand hasn’t put a significant number of features into the vehicle. Instead, there are quite a few notable ones to take advantage of.

One of the most notable of these is a lumbar support system in the driver’s seat, which makes it quite comfortable to drive over long distances. Alongside this are a few other features focused on maximizing the amount of comfort that’s available with the trim. The first of these is a dual-zone climate control system for the front of the vehicle, while there’s a separate setting for the SUV’s rear.

One of the last notable features that focus on comfort and maximizing space is the third row of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse L class, which includes a 60/40 split for large families to take advantage of. Alongside this is the cloth that’s used for each of the seats. While this isn’t the most comfortable fabric for a high-quality SUV, it mightn’t be the most attractive feature.

However, there are a few other features that drivers will be able to take advantage of. Many of these focus on the infotainment system that comes as standard with the vehicle. The largest of these is the first-row monitors that are included; while many SUVs include one with their base model, there are two available here.

Alongside this is a seek-scan radio that includes both FM and AM stations. The 2020 Chevrolet Traverse L trim also consists of a keyfob system on all doors that allows for remote access and entry, which could be quite a notable benefit. An ABS and driveline traction control system helps to round out many of the features that are included as standard with this trim level. For those that want to take advantage of them, heated mirrors are also included, though how beneficial this may depend on personal preference.

While many potential buyers would expect that the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse LS trim would include a variety of additional advantages, there are quite few. Perhaps the only notable difference between the two trim levels is that the LS has the choice of either FWD or AWD, while the base model only has the option of an FWD.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse LS Vs 1LT Trims. What’s The Difference?

With the disappointment that many drivers may have in the differences between the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse L and LS, it would be expected that there are a large number of them with the next trim upgrade, the 1LT. While there are a few notable differences, there aren’t as many as some people would believe, despite another large price increase.

Despite this, there are a few significant differences that many people might want to take advantage of. One of the largest of these is an upgrade to the entertainment system, with the seek-scan radio now having access to SiriusXM and Satellite radio on top of the AM/FM that was available with each of the other lower-end trims.

Alongside this is the addition of fog driving lights, which slightly alter the appearance of the front of the vehicle. There are also a few minor tweaks to the exterior appearance of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse with the 1LT trim, although this isn’t as noticeable as many people might expect. Outside of this, there are no other large differences between the two trim levels.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse 1LT Vs 3LT Trim Levels. What’s The Difference?

After the few minor differences between the previous trim levels, potential buyers will notice a large number of additions with the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse 3LT. Compared to the jump in features available as standard in previous trims, there is much more of note on offer here. As a result, it may be one of the more recommended choices, especially considering that there isn’t as large of a price difference between this and the lower-end models.

Though there are several tweaks and modifications to the exterior of the SUV, the majority of differences that people will see are focused on the interior of the 3LT. These primarily focus on increasing the amount of comfort that’s on offer, there are also a few notable tweaks to the vehicle’s performance and safety features, which many people may want to utilize.

Perhaps the largest of these is the inclusion of a parking assist system that’s focused on the rear of the SUV. Given how big the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse 3LT is, this can be quite beneficial for the majority of drivers. Outside of this, however, there aren’t any other extra additions to boast about when it comes to improved functionality.

Despite this, there is a large amount of extra comfort on offer with the 3LT trim, which is primarily because of a few new systems included as standard. The first of these is a heating system for the front passenger’s and driver’s seat, with this taking of a heated-seatback and heated-cushion feature. These should ensure that the front row is quite comfortable during a trip.

Alongside this, both of these seats feature lumbar support, which should prevent any discomfort, such as back pain, when driving for a significant amount of time. One of the only other notable changes between the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse LS and 3LT trims is that the higher-end model features leather seats as standard.

This adds quite a large amount of style with the upgrade while also helping to promote a certain sense of luxury. Despite this, there are relatively few other changes to the look and design of the interior, which could be relatively disappointing for many potential buyers.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse 3LT Vs RS Trims. What’s The Difference?

The 2020 Chevrolet Traverse RS may be one of the more disappointing trims available this year, with much of this being driven by the removal of an optional engine upgrade. As a result, quite a large number of people may be somewhat put off by the decision. However, there are a few reasons why drivers might want to consider it.

One of the most notable of these is the addition of an onboard navigation system, which none of the previous trims had available. As a result, quite a large number of people should be able to take advantage of a significant amount of systems that come alongside this. While this wouldn’t be the most attention-grabbing feature, it’s something that could come in quite handy.

Alongside this is a few modifications to the exterior of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, with the RS trim looking slightly sleeker than many of the previous trims. While much of this will be driven by the minor tweaks that can be seen, there are a few large adjustments that many drivers should notice immediately.

Perhaps the most prominent of these is a wheel change, with the RS having 20-inch wheels compared to the lower-end option’s 18-inches. While each trim level features aluminum wheels as standard, the RS is the first to have them painted, which could help enhance the option’s stylistic appeal.

Outside of this style upgrade, there are relatively few significant differences between this and the 3LT option.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse RS Vs Premier Trim Levels. What’s The Difference?

With the relatively few changes that are had between the majority of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse’s trim levels, potential buyers shouldn’t be surprised that there are relatively few upgrades seen here either. This is primarily because there are almost no changes between the RS and the Premier other than further tweaks and improvements to the SUV’s appearance.

However, many people wouldn’t guess this from the increase in price that’s associated with the trim. As a result, quite a large number of drivers may find that there aren’t many reasons to consider the upgrade. Despite this, there are a few minor tweaks and adjustments that can be seen.

Perhaps the largest of these is the fact that the wheels have been changed once again. While these are still 20-inches and made from aluminum, they’re now machined, and feature painted accents. Though not a significant change, this helps to add to the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse Premier’s sporty feel, especially when coupled with the other design tweaks that are on offer.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse Premier Vs High Country Trims. What’s The Difference?

Given that the High Country is the most high-end trim available for the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, it’s naturally the most expensive. However, this mightn’t mean that it provides as much value for money as the majority of buyers might expect. As many would expect based on each of the previous trims, there are relatively few core upgrades to the SUV outside of exterior differences.

While this may be the more visually appealing of the available trims, this mightn’t justify the large price increase that comes with it. This is primarily driven by the fact that the only large difference to the SUV’s exterior comes with the wheels, although this mightn’t be as significant as some would suggest.

The most prominent reason for this is that the wheels stay the same size as previous trims and are also made of aluminum, although these are polished rather than painted. This could be seen as either an upgrade or a downgrade, depending on a buyer’s preferences.

Alongside this, the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse High Country only sees one other notable change to the overall design. This will primarily be seen with the inclusion of a sunroof that features a few prominent controls. Some of the most significant of these include a tilting glass and express open/close functionality.

Similar to each of the relatively few other changes that are seen, this mightn’t be too large of an attraction for many buyers. However, it could be somewhat of an attraction if they’re looking for a well-designed SUV that out-styles many others in the class.

Which Trim to Choose?

Given that there are relatively few differences between each of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse’s trims, many potential buyers may believe that the base model will be the most cost-effective. There’s a large amount of truth to this, primarily because each of the more high-end trims doesn’t feature many extra features outside of style upgrades.

However, the 3LT trim could be just as well-recommended as an option. This is primarily because it offers quite a fine balance between style and functionality while also providing a certain amount of value for money. As a result, it could be the recommended choice for buyers who are looking for a more luxurious trim but don’t want to splurge on the High Country option.

Despite this, the decision of which 2020 Chevrolet Traverse trim to choose can depend significantly on how much emphasis a person puts on luxury and style. Even in this regard, however, the LS trim seems to be the most underwhelming options available, especially given the lack of notable features it includes from the previous trim.
