The 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan is among the oldest minivans on the market. Despite being an aging model, it still brings plenty of great traits to the table. Families will enjoy the Grand Caravan’s flexible interior design and comfortable seating. Meanwhile, a standard V6 engine gives the Grand Caravan the necessary punch off the line. Although all-wheel drive isn’t offered, this small issue is unlikely to turn away most buyers.

While not much has changed for 2019, Dodge has installed an auto-dimming rearview mirror. This feature is bound to make nighttime driving a bit more secure. With only three total trims in its lineup, the 2019 Dodge Caravan makes it easy for you to make a decision.

Compare the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan SE vs SE Plus Trim Levels. What is the difference?

With a starting price of slightly more than $26,000, the 2019 Dodge Caravan SE is among the cheapest minivans in America. Families who’re looking to cut their expenses should definitely take a serious look at this base model. It comes standard with a Pentastar V6 engine, which gives the Caravan a spry performance. A six-speed automatic transmission handles the task of sending power to the pavement.

In comparison to some of the other trims, the base Grand Caravan SE is a bit short on style. It comes equipped with a less attractive set of hubcaps. Don’t expect the Grand Caravan to wow anyone with its appearance. This trim’s main purpose is to haul around families without making a fuss.

While very few people will describe the Grand Caravan SE as being luxurious, it does come loaded some thoughtful features. Tri-zone climate control with rear A/C helps keep you and your passengers comfortable. Heated exterior mirrors help quickly melt away frost on cold mornings. Meanwhile, third-row Stow ’n Go seats expand the available cargo space when needed. Some of the other conveniences include a tilt-and telescoping steering wheel and a conversation mirror.

Despite not being laced with the latest in-vehicle technology, the 2019 Dodge Caravan SE does provide modern features. While the ParkView backup camera helps guide you out of parking spots, a 6.5-inch touch screen enables you to control the infotainment system. Other highlights include a six-speaker sound system, a new auto-dimming rearview mirror, and remote keyless entry.

A lot of people will want the SE trim’s optional Uconnect Hands-Free Group package. Bluetooth phone connectivity allows you to keep in touch with your friends. You can use Bluetooth to stream music from your mobile device as well. Satellite radio enables the Grand Caravan to provide just a bit more entertainment on the road. A USB port is also included on the SE trim. Third-row Stow ’n Go seats are available as a stand-alone option.

Kids will especially enjoy the SE trim’s optional High-Definition Multimedia Interface, which enables them to play video games and watch movies on a 9.0-inch screen. Wireless headphones come with the rear-seat entertainment system.

If you desire enhanced styling and a slightly more upscale interior, step up to the SE Plus trim. A far more eye-catching set of 17-inch black alloy wheels and blacked-out exterior treatments help the SE Plus trim to stand out. You’ll also benefit from the SE Plus trim’s fog lights.

On the inside of the Grand Caravan SE Plus, you’ll enjoy the Grand Caravan SE’s optional Uconnect Hands-Free Group package. There’s also upgraded upholstery in the Caravan SE Plus. When venturing out on a freezing day, remote engine start will enable you to warm things up before hitting the road. A Garmin navigation System is offered as well.

Compare the 2019 Grand Caravan SE Plus vs SXT Trims. What is the difference?

Moving to the range-topping Grand Caravan SXT will cause you to spend more money. However, it’s still among the best values in the segment. Unlike the other trims, the SXT trim provides dual-zone A/C for a more comfy ride during the summertime. Leather upholstery with suede inserts makes the cabin feel a bit plusher. Meanwhile, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat adds more convenience. Power-sliding doors and a power tailgate are also among the Grand Caravan SXT’s upgrades.

A Driver Convenience Group package is available as an option. It brings nice cold-weather features like a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. Your family will also enjoy the three-zone automatic climate control system, which enables you to easily set different temperate for the front and rear. When taking trips, the overhead storage bin gives you more cargo flexibility. Second-row sunshades also come in the Driver Convenience Group package.

Available as an option on the Grand Caravan SXT, the Blacktop appearance package brings the SE Plus trim’s black wheels and blacked-out styling cues.

Which Trim Level to Choose?

If you're simply looking for a cheap family hauler, the base Grand Caravan SE will be a good buy. It's less expensive than the typical minivan. Like the other trims, it's powered by a strong V6 engine. Although the Grand Caravan SE has a plain appearance, you'll find it to be a very comfy vehicle for everyday commuting. While a rear entertainment system is available, you may not want to fork over the extra $1,000. However, the optional Uconnect Hands-Free Group package with Bluetooth may prove to be a must-have feature.

Drivers who find the base Grand Caravan SE to be a bit too boring should step up to the Grand Caravan SE Plus. Its black-out styling looks great. Aside from the rear entertainment system, the SE Plus trim comes standard with all of the base model's options. Remote engine start is another nice feature. From a value standpoint, this trim is probably the best bang for the buck.

Spending the money on the Grand Caravan SXT rewards you with a more accommodating minivan. Power-sliding rear doors simplify the process of chauffeuring around your family. Dual-zone air conditioning is another feature you may not want to miss out on. To get the SXT trim with the SE Plus trim's appearance upgrades, you must get the optional Blacktop package. You also have access to a Driver Convenience Group package, which brings heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

2019 Dodge Caravan Key Features

Dodge only offers a single engine for the Grand Caravan. However, it’s quite power. It pushes out 283 horsepower, which gives the minivan the necessary get-up-and-go. However, a dated six-speed automatic transmission does somewhat limit the Grand Caravan’s performance capabilities. While the Grand Caravan isn’t the most efficient city vehicle, a highway fuel economy rating of 25 mpg makes it relatively economical on the open road.

Despite not being as functional as a SUV, the 2019 Dodge Caravan can pull up to 3,600 pounds with the available towing package. This is perfect for the families who need to pull a small pop-up camper or a pair of ATVs. Standard Trailer Sway Damping helps keep your cargo under control.

When it comes to safety features, the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan only provides the basics. Side-curtain airbags and stability control come standard on every trim. A ParkView backup camera is also found across the Grand Caravan lineup. Optional rear parking sensors further help you to avoid parking lot blunders. Sadly, you can’t get the new Grand Caravan with advanced driver-assist technologies like forward collision warning and blind-spot detection. From a safety standpoint, the Grand Caravan feels at least a decade older than most of the competition.

The standard Uconnect touch screen’s easy-to-use design will satisfy drivers. However, it is not Dodge’s most up-to-date interface. This means Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration are absent. Furthermore, you can expect the graphics to look dated. An often slow response also makes the interface less rewarding. Wi-Fi connectivity is not available.

If you plan to travel to out-of-town locations on a regular basis, the optional Garmin navigation system may prove to be a worthy addition. While the on-screen graphics will not be high-resolution, you’ll find the navigation system to do a good job of guiding you along.

All versions of the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan come with the same six-speaker stereo system. While the speakers sound okay, they aren’t able to deliver a great music-listening experience. Unfortunately, Dodge doesn’t offer a premium audio system for the new Grand Caravan. On the bring side, a rear-entertainment system is offered. While you’re running everyday errands, the entertainment system will help satisfy young children. Because it only comes with a single screen, there may be some arguing among families who have more than one child.

Dodge’s Stow 'n Go seats have long remained one of the Grand Caravan’s most popular features. These seats quickly fold flat to provide more cargo flexibility. When you are transporting extra stuff, the Stow ‘n Go seats promise to make your life less hectic. With the use of the Stow ‘n Go second-row seats, accessing the third row becomes very easy for your family.
