2019 Ford Fusion Trim Levels, Configurations & Comparisons: S vs SE vs SEL, Titanium & Sport

What 2019 Ford Fusion Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

The 2019 Ford Fusion remains a rewarding midsize family sedan. While sharp handling and a composed ride make the Fusion enjoyable to drive, available all-wheel drive gives it an edge over the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. There are several nice creature comforts available.

To help keep the Fusion relevant in one of the market’s most competitive segments, Ford has updated the sedan’s styling by installing a new front and rear fascia. A standard Co-Pilot360 safety package has also been introduced into the lineup.

You can get the 2019 Ford Fusion in the following trims: S, SE, SEL, Titanium and V6 Sport. Let’s see how these trims differ from each other.

Compare the 2019 Ford Fusion S vs SE Trims. What is the difference?

At the bottom of the lineup sits the base Fusion S, which has an attractive MSRP of $22,200. Its standard four-cylinder engine develops 173 horsepower, which is not too far behind the competition. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission come standard as well.

Although the Fusion S is a money saver, it still comes standard with some enjoyable features. A voice-activated Sync infotainment system enables you to keep your hands on the wheel. A 4.2-inch display screen, a backup camera, and push-button start are also found inside the base Fusion. For 2019, a Co-Pilot360 Protect safety package comes standard throughout the lineup. It provides forward collision mitigation, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert.

There is an optional Co-Pilot360 Assist package available on the base Fusion S. It adds Ford’s top-rated Sync 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Along with the interface comes a larger 8.0-inch touch screen. Navigation is built into Sync 3. Dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and dual USB ports are featured in this package as well.

In terms of performance and fuel efficiency, the Fusion SE is a step above the Fusion S. It comes equipped with a smaller turbocharged engine, which develops 181 horsepower. Automatic engine stop-start comes standard on the SE trim.

You’ll also find the Fusion SE to be better equipped. It comes standard with the more advanced Sync 3 infotainment system. You will also enjoy a Wi-Fi hot spot. Some of the other conveniences include powered front seats, rear heat ducts, navigation, and six-speaker stereo system with satellite radio.

An SE Appearance package is optional on the Fusion SE. It adds a more attractive set of 18-inch black wheels. You’ll also receive a leather-wrapped steering wheel and special interior treatments. If you decide to get the Fusion SE with all-wheel drive, a 240-horsepower engine will come with it. Heated front seats and heated side mirrors help the AWD-equipped Fusion SE to tackle wintry weather.

Compare the 2019 Fusion SE vs SEL Trims. What is the difference?

Expect the Fusion SEL to look and feel just a bit more luxurious than the Fusion SE. Unlike the SE trim, it features LED headlamps. Upgraded ActiveX seating material gives the cabin a plusher feel. Meanwhile, an 11-speaker premium audio system makes your favorite songs sound better. Remote start is another one of the Fusion SEL’s nice features. The Co-Pilot360 Assist package with navigation and adaptive cruise control remains optional.

In regard to exterior styling, a larger set of 18-inch alloy wheels give then Fusion S a sporty stance. Powering the SEL trim is the SE trim’s base engine. Ruby Red, Rich Copper, and White Platinum are the available premium paint colors.

Compare the Fusion SEL vs Titanium Trims. What is the difference?

The Fusion Titanium comes standard with the stronger 2.0L turbocharged engine, which is available with all-wheel drive. You can also look forward to experiencing the Fusion Titanium’s additional creature comforts. Ventilated front sport seats make summer road trips more rewarding. A premium 12-speaker Sony sound system with HD radio gives you more reason to like the Fusion Titanium. Inflated rear seat-belts enhance passenger safety. A sunroof, the Fusion’s optional Co-Pilot360 Assist package, and ambient interior lighting also come standard on the Titanium trim.

You can expect the Titanium trim to have a flashier appearance. It flaunts a rear spoiler and a chrome mesh grille. A set of 19-inch wheels also help the sedan to make a grand entrance.

Compare the Fusion Titanium vs Sport Trims. What is the difference?

Atop the Fusion range sits the Fusion Sport. It’s the most powerful model in the lineup. A 325-horsepower, twin-turbo V6 engine puts the Fusion Sport in motion. Adjustable suspension dampers help promote more responsive handling. You will also benefit from the Fusion Sport’s Pothole Mitigation technology, which helps protect the wheels against jarring impacts. All-wheel drive comes standard.

While the Fusion Sport’s list of features is similar to that of the Titanium trim, leather and simulated suede upholstery help set it apart. An automated parking system is also found on the Fusion Sport.

When doing a side-by-side comparison of the Fusion Titanium and the Fusion Sport, you’ll notice the Sport trim’s slightly meaner attitude. Quad exhaust tips help it to look a bit racier. A black mesh grille accentuates the sedan’s powerful styling.

Final Thoughts

If you’re simply concerned about getting a good car for the money, consider the base Fusion S. Although the steel wheels on the Fusion S won’t catch your eye, there are some attractive features on the inside. Because Ford’s Co-Pilot360 Protect safety package comes standard, you don’t have to pay extra for driving aids like automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Remember, all-wheel drive is not offered on the base Fusion S.

Priced at only $1,300 more than the base Fusion, the SE trim proves to be a good deal. It comes standard with a Wi-Fi hot spot and Ford’s highly touted Sync infotainment system. An optional SE Appearance package also spices up the sedan’s styling. Adding all-wheel drive gets you a more potent engine.

Take a strong look at the Fusion SEL. Although it may not pack the power of the Titanium trim, it’s efficient and quite luxurious. Of course, you may not be able to resist the Titanium model’s enhanced performance and ventilated sport seats.

Drivers who have a passion for performance should look no further than the Fusion Sport. It’s one of the quickest family cars available for less than $45,000. An automatic parking system and standard all-wheel drive also make the Fusion Sport an appealing option. While the Fusion Sport is tuned to use regular unleaded gas, a combined fuel economy rating of 20 mpg makes it the less efficient trim.

2019 Ford Fusion Key Features

When shopping for a new 2019 Ford Fusion, you must decide which engine is the best choice. While the base four-cylinder is not a powerhouse, it will return a combined 25 mpg. Despite producing more horsepower and torque, the available 1.5L turbocharged engine won’t provide a big boost of performance. However, fuel economy does jump to a combined 27 mpg. Expect the larger 2.0L engine to feel a lot stronger. If you really want to have a blast, go for the Fusion Sport’s turbocharged V6 engine. It enables you to hit 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, which is quicker than most cars in the segment.

All versions of the Fusion offer good road handling and a smooth highway ride. However, you’ll find the Fusion Sport to be especially great at dancing around curves. Its adaptive suspension system helps reduce body roll. You’ll also grow to appreciate the Fusion Sport’s Pothole Mitigation technology. Not only does this feature help prevent damaged wheels and tires, but it also further enhances ride quality.

While the Fusion S comes standard with a basic infotainment system, you should upgrade to the better SYNC 3 interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Very few infotainment systems offer easier smartphone integration. The 8.0-inch touch screen’s graphics are outstanding. Because Sync 3’s voice commands work so well, you’ll be able to easily place calls and change radio stations while on the road.

The safety technologies found in Ford’s standard Co-Pilot360 Protect will help keep you secure. While Pre-Collision Assist can automatically activate your brakes when approaching slower vehicles ahead, blind-spot monitoring warns you of hidden danger. Lane-keep assist also does a job of keeping the sedan from veering across the line. Standard on the Fusion Sport, Enhanced Active Park Assist can steer you into a parking space. When driving around with your family, the available inflatable rear seat-belts will give you an extra peace of mind.

Aside from the base four-speaker unit, all of the available stereo systems sound decent. While the 11-speaker premium audio system will satisfy the average music fan, the 12-speaker Sony system is truly impressive. It’ll even make quick runs to the supermarket more entertaining. Dolby surround sound enables your favorite songs to hit from every angle. A subwoofer handles heavy bass notes.

Heated and ventilated seats are available on the 2019 Ford Fusion. The seat warmers are great for keeping you toasty during the peak of winter. On the other hand, you’ll find the ventilated cushions to be perfectly matched for the summer. By blowing cool air underneath you, they make driving on a hot day more comfortable.
