2020 Ford Edge Trim Levels with Comparisons & Configurations.

Ford has a lot of offerings in the SUV market. One of their newer midsize options is the Edge. Consumers will likely be attracted to this vehicle because it offers more features than the average SUV but does so without breaking the bank. Plus, it offers hard-to-top interior space without being so large it is hard to drive.

This SUV is in its second generation, which made its debut in 2015. Not many changes have been made in 2020. Dual-zone automatic climate control has been added as a standard feature for all models, while the CD player has been eliminated.

Drivers will want to look carefully at all four trim levels offered in 2020. They will find that the entry-level model, known as the SE, is very well-equipped. Consumers who elect to go with the ST will find a vehicle that can give some luxury models a run for their money. Both trims in between have their own merits as well.

Consumers' first option is the Ford Edge SE. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination generates 250-horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Standard on this trim are active grille shutters. Also standard is an auto start-stop feature that is designed to both reduce emissions and improve fuel economy.

Front-wheel-drive is the standard and all-wheel-drive is an available option. The all-wheel-drive features a drive disconnect feature that monitors traction in order to help balance torque between the wheels.

The SE trim level is equipped with 18" wheels. There are two bright exhaust tips included on this trim as well to help give the Edge an athletic look. The windshield wipers are auto on and off. LED daytime running lights are standard. Also standard are LED tail lamps with amber turn signals. Exterior accents on the entry-level Edge are black, to include the mirror caps and beltline molding.

Acoustic laminated glass is included for the SE. All of the back windows have privacy glass. There is also a body-colored rear spoiler. The final exterior touch is rain-sensing windshield wipers.

There are many highly sought-after interior features found in the SE trim. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard. Also included is Intelligent Access, which includes a push-button start feature. Drivers get a day/night rearview mirror and dual-illuminated vanity visor mirrors.

The SE does not skimp when it comes to technology features either. Standard for this model is the Sync 3 system on an 8" touchscreen. Drivers can integrate their compatible smartphone with either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. There are four 12-volt power outlets as well as two charging USB ports located throughout the cabin.

FordPass Connect is also included, which gives the vehicle a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. This allows up to ten devices to connect to the internet at a time. The hotspot can be accessed up to 50 feet away from the Edge. FordPass Connect also allows for drivers to do things such as check their vehicle status and locate their vehicle through their smartphone.

Drivers get a 10-way power adjustable seat. The seating inside the SE trim is cloth. Both bucket front seats have a reclining feature. There is a 60/40 split-folding bench in the back that also has the ability to recline. Consumers have the option of adding a dual-headrest DVD entertainment system.

There is a respectable number of advanced safety features on the SE trim. They are part of the Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite. Drivers get pre-collision assist featuring automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, a blind spot information system with rear cross traffic alert, a lane keep assist package, and a rearview camera.

A remote keyless entry system comes standard. Also included is the MyKey feature from Ford. This works similar to the teen driver program found on other vehicles. Parents can use it to restrict driving modes while their teen is behind the wheel. Examples of what this feature can do include keeping the vehicle stationary until seatbelts are fastened, limiting the top speed, and limiting the maximum volume for the audio system. It can also prevent the teenager from turning off advanced driver aids on models with them equipped.

The only optional package for the SE trim is the cargo accessory one. This gives the Edge a cargo mat, retractable cargo area cover, and rear bumper protector. Drivers can add this package to any trim level.

Option number two is the SEL. It is the same mechanically speaking as the SE. The wheels stay the same too, although the SEL does have the option of upgrading to more stylish premium dark stainless ones. Many of the features that were black on the SE become body-colored when moving up to the SEL. This trim also adds the silver roof rails as a standard feature.

More LED lighting can be found on the exterior of the SEL trim. It gets LED fog lights as well as LED signature lighting. The side mirrors become heated and add both LED turn signal indicators as well as security approach lamps. A panoramic sunroof becomes available here.

There are several optional interior features that can be added to the SEL. These include a wireless charging pad, universal garage door opener, remote start system, and hands-free power lift-gate that can be activated by foot. While standard safety features remain the same here, there are two noteworthy options for the SEL. The first is adaptive cruise control with stop and go. Not only can this feature slow down the Edge or even bring it to a stop, but it can also start it back up again when traffic resumes moving. The second is evasive steering. A radar and camera combination is used to detect slowed or stopped vehicles in the Edge's path. If necessary, evasive steering can kick on and help avoid a collision. These two features are added jointly in the Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ package.

The SEL does not add too much to the price tag but it does add a decent amount of standard and available features.

Next up on the option list is the Titanium trim. It shares the same engine as the prior two models. This model sits on stylish 19" nickel-painted aluminum wheels. There are two 20" wheel options available as well. Lighting options are the same but drivers can choose to add adaptive LED headlights featuring LED amber light blade turn signals.

Acoustic laminate glass is added to the front row side windows. Previously optional features are added as standard equipment here. The Titanium is loaded with wireless charging, the hands-free liftgate, and a remote start system. Also included with this trim level is the universal garage door opener as well as the heated steering wheel. The side mirrors gain a memory function.

One of the biggest upgrades for the Titanium trim involves the audio capabilities. This trim is equipped with a B&O 12-speaker sound system. Standard on the Titanium are leather-trimmed sport bucket seats. Available options include ventilation for the front seats, heated rear seats, and upgraded perforated leather-trimmed sport seats. There is ambient interior lighting inside this model.

Standard and available advanced driver aids remain the same for the Titanium trim. This trim can also add a front 180-degree camera including a washer. Also optional is an advanced parking assist system that can aid with parallel and perpendicular parking. It also can help drivers maneuver out of a space with the park out feature.

Optional for this trim level is the Titanium Elite package. With this, the Edge gets Brunello door inserts with red stitching. It also adds specialized floor mats with the same red stitching. The Titanium trim certainly has many convenience and comfort features that attract consumers but it also has a pretty significant price increase.

A new engine is found underneath the hood of the ST trim level. It is a 2.7L V6 and it will produce 335-horsepower as well as 380 lb-ft of torque. Paired with this engine is the same eight-speed automatic transmission. Automatic stop-start technology is also included. This is the only model that comes exclusively with all-wheel-drive.

On the outside, the ST trim features a gloss black mesh grille with special ST badging. This model sits on 20" wheels standard but has the option to be upgraded to 21" ones instead. Inside, the heated steering wheel once again becomes only an available option. It gets special ST bolstered bucket seats with "City Silver" stitching and an embossed ST logo. The brake and accelerator pedals gain an aluminum padding.

Standard on the ST trim is the Class II trailer tow package. This brings the towing capacity of the Edge up to 3,500 pounds. It gives it trailer sway control to help keep both the vehicle and what it is towing stable. This package is available for the SEL and Titanium models.

Available on this trim level is the ST performance brake package. This adds the larger 21" gloss black aluminum wheels. It also gives the Edge front and rear vented disc brakes, red brake calipers, performance brake pads, and vented brake shields. Finally, it gives it a brushless radiator cooling fan. Adding this package means the Edge comes equipped with summer tires.

Which Trim to Choose?

One great thing about the 2020 Ford Edge is that there is no bad choice. It offers a very respectable list of standard features from the base model on up. However, since the extra safety features are not available on the SE, it is a good idea to go to at least the SEL. With this, a long list of available features are unlocked.

Although the Titanium trim is fancy, it does not really add many features that are terribly useful. The ST trim is a lot of fun with its larger engine, but the base engine is no slouch. Plus, the ST trim costs quite a bit more than the other options.

In most cases, the SEL version of the 2020 Ford Edge is the right way to go.
